Russian military instructors and Central African Republic (CAR) forces they are supporting have carried out indiscriminate killings, used excessive force against civilians, and looted in the war-torn country, according to a UN report.

Moscow denied allegations in the annual expert sanctions report, which was recently submitted to the UN Security Council and obtained by several news agencies on June 28.

The CAR army, known as FACA, and Russian instructors carried out abuses including “cases of excessive use of force, indiscriminate killings, the occupation of schools and looting on a large scale, including of humanitarian organizations," the report detailed.

The experts received "numerous reports of cases of indiscriminate killings against unarmed civilians by Russian instructors," the report said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on June 28 that the accusations in the UN report were “yet another lie."

"Russian military advisers could not and did not take part in the killings or robberies,” he said.

Russian advisers, UN peacekeepers, and Rwandan special forces help President Faustin Archange Touadera combat rebel groups linked to former President Francois Bozize in the resource-rich country’s civil war.

Moscow says it has only sent 532 instructors to the CAR and they do not engage in combat.

But the report cited testimonies noting “the active participation of Russian instructors in combat operations on the ground, many having observed that they often led rather than followed FACA."

In addition, “multiple sources” estimated Russia had a much higher number of instructors, ranging from 800 to 2,100, the report said.

That estimate does not include 600 additional Russian instructors whose deployment was announced to the UN in May by the CAR.

The experts also cited testimonies that the instructors included people who said they were from Libya, Syria, and elsewhere.

Last week, the UN's envoy to CAR as well as diplomats from the United States and France accused the nation's security forces and their Russian paramilitary allies of wide-ranging human rights abuses.

Western powers say the Russian instructors are in fact mercenaries from the Vagner Group, a Russian military contractor with ties to the government.

Russia has significantly increased its presence and influence in the poor but resource-rich African country, where Russian national Valery Zakharov serves as national-security adviser to President Touadera.

The CAR government has granted gold and diamond mining permits to Russian companies suspected of having links to Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the man believed to be the head of the Vagner Group.

The coordinator of the Russian instructors told the UN panel they were all Russians and recruited from an association of primarily former military officers.

He said the instructors had not been hired by “a private company,” contrary to reports by a UN human rights commission group and Western allegations.

In een referendum mag de bevolking hier over stemmen, maar eigenlijk heeft Poetin zijn plek al verzekerd.

De voormalige KGB-spion is al sinds 1999 aan de macht en is daarmee de langstzittende Russische leider sinds de communistische Sovjet-dictator Josef Stalin. Eerder wist Poetin de beperking op het maximale aantal ambtstermijnen van de president te omzeilen door tijdelijk premier te worden. Door de wet kan de 68-jarige politicus nog twee keer presidentskandidaat zijn en twee termijnen van zes jaar dienen. Dat meldt persbureau TASS.

Verdachte overlijdens Russische dissidenten (2006 - 2018)

Sinds 2006 zijn in Rusland en daarbuiten diverse tegenstanders van het Kremlin onder verdachte omstandigheden om het leven gekomen. Alhoewel de Russische autoriteiten steevast alle betrokkenheid ontkennen bestaat in veel van die gevallen het vermoeden dat het gaat om gerichte acties van de Russische geheime dienst FSB. Vooral in het Verenigd Koninkrijk zijn sinds 2006 opvallend veel Russische dissidenten in ballingschap onder verdachte omstandigheden om het leven gekomen. Het gaat onder meer om Aleksandr Litvinenko, Igor Ponomarev, Yuri Golubev, Badri Patarkatsishvili, Alexander Perepilichny, Nikolai Glushkov en Boris Berezovsky. In veel gevallen was spraken van een mogelijke, moeilijk te traceren vergiftiging. De vergiftiging van de Russische dubbelspion Sergei Skripal in Engeland in maart 2018 gaf tevens aanleiding tot veel speculaties omtrent Russische betrokkenheid.

Omtrent de HAK overname, de groente prijzen stijgen snel in Rusland. Er zijn veel oogsten mislukt.
De wortels oa zijn al 5 keer zo duur. Ook aardappels,kool duurder, allemaal producten die veel gegeten worden door mensen met lagere inkomens. Men is bang voor meer onvrede hierdoor. Ik vermoed dat er wat van de voorraden van Hak naar Rusland gaan.

Russia is sending a clear message to Europe: Allow the completion of Nord Stream 2 or gas prices will remain high and supplies dangerously low.

Following a cold winter in Europe, gas storages in several European countries are at less than 50% capacity.

Russian gas giant Gazprom, unwilling to increase gas supplies, has driven gas prices to new highs and sent gas brokers scrambling to seek alternative supply.

Russia’s actions are placing pressure on Europe’s leaders to allow the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which project head Matthias Warnig says will be completed by the end of the summer.

With the completion of Nord Stream 2 looming, Ukraine finds itself on the verge of a catastrophe: In bypassing Ukraine, Russia will be able to economically isolate it and increase the EU’s energy dependence on Russia.

Moreover, it gives Russia the leverage to block Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the European Union.

Rusland is geen filantropische instelling, en die stompzinnige sancties van Biden, slaafs gevolgd door Europa, betaalt Europa gewoon terug in de gasprijs.
Easy as that, en volkomen logisch.

Russia offers North Korea Covid vaccines again as crisis worsens

Russia has offered North Korea Covid vaccines once again, amid reports that a harsh lockdown is leading to extreme hunger.

Pyongyang has refused vaccines and aid from a number of countries.

It has instead sealed borders to try and keep the virus out but that has affected trade with China. It relies on Beijing for food, fertiliser and fuel.

Kim Jong-Un has acknowledged that the country is facing food shortages, describing the situation as "tense".

He made the comments last month and also told citizens to prepare for the "worst ever outcome" which has invoked comparisons to a deadly famine in the 1990s.

International trade sanctions are believed to have further put pressure on food supplies.

Russia has previously told North Korea that "not everyone can endure unprecedentedly strong, overarching restrictions", and on Wednesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow has offered Pyongyang vaccines on a number of occasions.

He also repeated the offer to provide vaccines should the country require them.
