Report: UAE's Emirates Airline Set to Use 'Bitcoin as a Payment Service'

One of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s leading airlines, Emirates Airline, said it has plans to add “bitcoin as a payment service.” The airline is planning to recruit personnel to create applications that monitor client needs.

Two Different Applications and Approaches
The United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s leading airline, Emirates Airline, will soon embrace “bitcoin as a payment service,” the company’s chief operating officer (COO) Adel Ahmed Al-Redha has said. In addition, the airline will add non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles on its webpage.

Reports of the airline’s plan to embrace bitcoin come just a few weeks after it revealed its NFT and metaverse plans. As reported by Bitcoin.com News, the company’s goal with the metaverse launch is to ensure the airline is “aligned with the UAE’s vision for the digital economy.”

In remarks published in Arab News, Al Redha hinted that his company may have to recruit employees to assist it in creating applications which monitor customer needs. He also spoke of the differences between NFTs and the metaverse. He explained:

“NFTs and metaverse are two different applications and approaches. With the metaverse, you will be able to transform your whole processes — whether it is in operation, training, sales on the website, or complete experience — into a metaverse type application, but more importantly making it interactive.”

The report did not state when the airline expects to launch its bitcoin payment service.

Global market regulators are likely to launch a joint body within the next year to better coordinate cryptocurrency regulations, said a top executive of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

A Global Body to Coordinate Crypto Rules
Top executives at the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) discussed cryptocurrency regulation this week. Members of the global organization regulate more than 95% of the world’s securities markets in more than 130 jurisdictions.

Emphasizing the need for a global group to align crypto rules, IOSCO Chair Ashley Alder said global market regulators are likely to launch a joint body within the next year to better coordinate cryptocurrency regulations, Reuters reported.

Noting that similar setups are already in place for climate finance, including one set up by the G20 countries, Alder described:

There isn’t anything like that for crypto at the moment … But I do think now it’s seen as one of the three C’s (Covid, climate and crypto) so it’s very, very important.

Citing the boom of digital currencies, including bitcoin, the IOSCO chair said crypto “has gone up the agenda” and become one of the three key areas authorities are focused on.

She noted that there are multiple crypto-related risks that need to be addressed, adding that regulators are lagging behind on some key risk areas, including cyber security, operational resilience, and a lack of transparency in the crypto ecosystem.

Martin Moloney, secretary-general at the IOSC, said at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association’s annual general meeting this week:

"We are on the cusp of something new, something important and something that requires a lot of work from us."

He opined: “I don’t have to have a crystal ball to be able to say, ‘Will crypto still be around in 20 years’ time?’ It doesn’t matter. I do know, as you can see, that it has developed sufficiently that we have to begin to act as if it will still be around in 20 years’ time. We have to take it that seriously.”

The secretary-general urged the crypto industry to engage with regulators, stating:

"Use your ingenuity, use your technology to solve the regulatory problem instead of telling us to go away, that you don’t want to engage with the regulatory problem."

Germany Declares Crypto Gains Tax-Free After 1 Year — Even if Used for Staking, Lending

The German Ministry of Finance has published a letter officially confirming that the sale of crypto assets is tax-free after one year even if the coins are used for staking and lending.

How Crypto Gains Are Taxed in Germany
The German Ministry of Finance announced Wednesday that it has published a letter on the income taxation of cryptocurrency, stating:

This is the first time that there is a nationwide uniform administrative instruction on the subject.

The finance ministry detailed that in a hearing that took place last year, one of the most intensely discussed questions was whether the tax-free holding period for crypto lending and staking should be a minimum of 10 years.

The ministry noted that in coordination with federated states:

The letter now states that the so-called 10-year period does not apply to virtual currencies.

In Germany, cryptocurrency is viewed as “a private asset,” which means “it attracts an individual income tax rather than a capital gains tax,” crypto tax firm Koinly explained, emphasizing that Germany “only taxes crypto if it’s sold within the same year it was bought.”

Koinly further detailed:

As a ‘private sale’ in Germany, crypto gains are completely tax-exempt after a holding period of one year.

“In addition, profits on crypto sales up to €600 per calendar year remain tax-free,” the firm added, noting that previously, “When it comes to cashing in on staked crypto, that tax-free holding period is a minimum of 10 years.”

Citing the letter published by the Ministry of Finance, crypto advisor Patrick Hansen explained on Twitter:

The sale of acquired crypto assets will remain tax-free after one year, even if used for staking/lending.

Parliamentary State Secretary Katja Hessel commented: “For individuals, the sale of acquired bitcoin and ether is tax-free after one year. The period is not extended to 10 years even if, for example, bitcoin was previously used for lending or the taxpayer provided ether as a stake for someone else.”

Bitcoin weer onder 30.000 dollar
Cryptomunt bitcoin is maandag weer onder de grens van 30.000 dollar gezakt.

Het verminderde risicoappetijt en wankele 'stabelcoins' zorgden de voorbije week voor een heuse vlucht uit cryptomunten, waardoor heel wat crypto-investeerders flinke verliezen moesten slikken.

Leuk gevonden. Het is wel over een periode van 60 jaar. Nu weet ik niet wat de resultaten zijn van bv de Rothschild familie, maar die investeren een eeuwtje of twee langer. Dus dat kon wel eens beduidend beter zijn. Ik ben niet zo goed in rekenen maar als je het uitrekent in jaarwinsten dan wil het nog wel eens zien. En het is nog niet afgelopen. Berkshire kan net zo goed door het ijs zakken en bitcoin heeft nog heel veel potentie omhoog. Daarom zei ik ook een van de best presterende assets.

Prima, sportief. Je zei overigens ook ''zo niet de best presterende asset aller tijden''. Collega Crypto_music gooie er reeds een inflatiecijfer tegenaan welke ik niet heb gecontroleerd maar wel heb toegepast in mijn reactie aan hem. Effect tijdswaarde wordt daar wel min of meer mee wegggehaald Ik vond het a) zinvol om te relativeren met objectieve gegevens en b) moet toegeven dat ik het leuk vond de vergelijking te maken me Buffet's fonds. Moet kunnen imo, no harm intended. BTC is historisch zeker wel een hoogvlieger gekeken naar waardestijging weggezet tegenover periode.

Warren Buffett-Backed Nubank Launches Crypto Trading — Holds Bitcoin on Balance Sheet

Warren Buffett-backed Nubank, one of the world’s largest digital banking platforms, has launched cryptocurrency trading. Starting with bitcoin and ether, the bank explained that its 54 million customers can “buy, hold and sell cryptocurrency all from the same app, with no need to open new accounts or transfer money.”

Nubank Now Offers In-App Crypto Trading
Nubank, one of the world’s largest digital banking platforms, announced Wednesday that it is entering the crypto trading market. The bank serves around 54 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

The announcement details:

The company launched today in Brazil an exclusive in-app crypto trading experience, offering initially bitcoin and ethereum trading starting at BRL $1.00 (~U.S. $0.20).

The new service aims to enable “customers to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrency all from the same [Nubank] app, with no need to open new accounts or transfer money,” the bank explained.

Prior to this launch, Nubank clients could gain exposure to cryptocurrencies through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and funds offered by Nuinvest, formerly known as Easynvest.

The bank noted that the new crypto trading service “will be gradually available for customers in Brazil starting in May 2022, reaching the entire customer base by the end of July 2022.”

The announcement adds that “Nubank will do frequent curation” in order to offer more cryptocurrencies to clients. Furthermore, the bank will “provide educational resources to customers interested in digital currency transactions, to support informed investment decisions.”

Nubank’s Partnership With Paxos
Nubank’s crypto trading is operated in partnership with Paxos, a regulated blockchain infrastructure provider that will act as a custody provider and broker, according to the announcement.

Charles Cascarilla, co-founder and CEO of Paxos, commented: “Nubank’s move to enter the crypto trading space represents a strategic move not only for the company but for an acceleration of the cryptocurrency adoption in the region.”

David Vélez, founder and CEO of Nubank, opined:

"There is no doubt that crypto is a growing trend in Latin America, one that we have been following closely and believe will have a transformational impact on the region."

Nu Holdings Adds Bitcoin to Balance Sheet
In addition to launching cryptocurrency trading, Nu Holdings, Nubank’s parent company, announced that it has allocated “~1% of its balance sheet cash to bitcoin.” The company stated:

"The transaction reinforces the company’s conviction in the current and future potential of bitcoin in the region’s financial services landscape."

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway is a current shareholder of Nu Holdings. According to its latest 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Berkshire’s holdings as of Dec. 31, 2021, included Nu Holdings shares worth more than $1 billion. Berkshire Hathaway also invested $500 million in Nu Holdings in June last year, months before the company went public.

Buffett, however, recently said that he will not invest in cryptocurrencies because they do not produce anything. Meanwhile, Berkshire Vice Chairman Charlie Munger believes that crypto is “stupid and evil.”

De bitcoin heeft geen toekomst als betaalmiddel, zegt jonge cryptomiljardair Sam Bankman-Fried

De belangrijkste cryptomunt, de bitcoin, is niet geschikt als betaalmiddel. Dat stelt Sam Bankman-Fried, cryptomiljardair en oprichter van het FTX-handelsplatform, tegenover zakenkrant The Financial Times.

Bankman-Fried stelt dat de bitcoin te inefficiënt is en een te hoge impact heeft op het milieu om ooit als betaalmiddel te kunnen functioneren. Daarbij acht hij het bewezen dat de oudste cryptomunt onvoldoende schaalbaar genoeg is om de enorme hoeveelheid transacties aan te kunnen die nodig zou zijn voor een wereldwijd betaalsysteem.

Het probleem van de bitcoin is dat de cryptomunt werkt met de zogenoemde 'proof of work'-methode om transacties op het netwerk (de blockchain) de verifiëren. Dat gaat relatief traag en slurpt veel energie.

Daarom beweert Bankman-Fried dat een cryptovaluta op het 'proof of stake'-systeem moet draaien om bruikbaar te zijn als betaalmiddel. Die methode om transacties ter verifiëren werkt namelijk vele malen sneller en heeft slechts een fractie van de energie nodig die een proof of work-systeem gebruikt. Een voorbeeld hiervan is het Ethereum-platform.

"Dingen waar je miljoenen transacties per seconden mee verwerkt, moeten extreem efficiënt en energiezuinig zijn. Proof of stake-netwerken zijn dat", aldus Bankman-Fried tegenover The Financial Times.

Bij FTX gebruikt men meerdere initiatieven om het energieverbruik te compenseren. Maar zelfs dat is geen oplossing voor het stijgende energieverbruik, denkt Bankman-Fried, "omdat er op een gegeven moment simpelweg niet genoeg dingen meer zijn om mee te compenseren."

Bitcoin blijft nut hebben
Toch hoeft de bitcoin niet te verdwijnen van de FTX-oprichter. Hij denkt dat er zeker een plaats is voor de digitale munt binnen het bredere cryptolandschap. Hij ziet het als een belegging en een opslag van waarde, net als goud.

Bankman-Fried zag de afgelopen week zijn fortuin ongeveer halveren door de enorme daling op de cryptomarkt. Daarbij daalde de bitcoin even tot onder de 27.000 dollar, het laagste punt in meer dan een jaar tijd.

Enkele andere munten deden het nog slechter. Zo bleef er van cryptoplatform Terra helemaal niets over. De bijbehorende cryptomunt luna leverde vrijwel al zijn waarde in. Momenteel noteert de luna op 0,0002 dollar, volgens de site Coinmarketcap.com. Vorige maand was die nog meer dan 100 dollar waard.

Verder zou ik het originele artikel wel eens willen zien want MSN is nu niet direct de meest betrouwbare bron. Daarnaast beweert niemand dat bitcoin toekomst heeft als betaalmiddel. Uit de categorie: open deuren intrappen.

463629.91 /7.5 = 61817.32 ,dus maal 61817.32 op 60 jaar = 20.1854% gemiddeld per jaar.
BTC 1/11/2011 0.3,momenteel rond 30000.
30000/0.3 = 100000 op minder dan 11 jaar.

Zelf maar ingestapt vanaf 283.3 8.5 jaar geleden gemiddeld 73.06 % per jaar.

Ter relativering 1 maand later Dogecoin deed het op deze termijn iets beter (wel nog een stuk volatieler dan de toch al heel volatiele BTC).

Het is idd de vraag in hoeverre het succesvol blijft en dat was ook bij mijn instap al de vraag maar wie het toen afschoot heeft het toch duidelijk fout gehad.

Ondanks het debacle van de laatste algoritmische stablecoin UST, zijn zowel Tron als Near hun eigen algoritmische stablecoins begonnen: USN en USDD.

Mij lijkt dat de totale implosie van het Luna netwerk nu ook boven het Tron en Near netwerk hangt. Ofschoon kwade tongen beweren dat Justin Sun, de man achter Tron, de kwade genius is geweest achter de aanval op de Luna-stablecoin. Wie het weet mag het zeggen. Voor de liefhebbers en lefhebbers, je kunt 40% per jaar verdienen door USDD te staken op het Tron netwerk. Ik doe er niet aan mee. Ik heb geen Tron, wel wat Near; en dat ga ik vandaag nog verkopen.
