Nyxoah ziet omzet stevig stijgen

Het slaapbedrijf Nyxoah NYXH 0,00% kwam donderdagavond al met resultaten over het jaar 2021, een dag vroeger dan voorzien. De omzet kwam uit op 852.000 euro, tegenover 69.000 euro vorig jaar. De toename was vooral te danken aan de commercialisatie van Genio, het systeem dat slaapapneu tegengaat door het stimuleren van de tong- en keelspieren via een implantaat, in Europa. De verkoop gebeurt vooral in Duitsland.

Voor het tweede halfjaar kwam de omzet uit op 497.000 euro, 40 procent meer dan in het eerste halfjaar. Dat laat zien dat de verkopen aan het versnellen zijn. Verder kwam de brutomarge in 2021 uit op 64,4 procent, tegenover 56,5 procent in 2020.

Vooral door de commercialisatie in Duitsland en andere Europese landen stegen de algemene kosten van 7,5 naar 11,1 miljoen euro. Het bedrijf verwacht ook dat er meer personeel zal bijkomen in anticipatie van een lancering in de VS die de onderneming voor ogen heeft. Het nettoverlies steeg van 12,2 miljoen naar 27,6 miljoen euro.

Eind 2021 had het bedrijf 135,5 miljoen euro aan kasgeld tegenover 92,3 miljoen een jaar daarvoor. De toename is vooral het gevolg van de 97,8 miljoen dollar die Nyxoah ophaalde in juli toen het naar de techbeurs Nasdaq trok. De onderneming trok overigens wel naar die beurs tegen een lager dan verhoopte prijs. De cashburn bedroeg vorig jaar 25,3 miljoen euro.

Voor 2022 hoopt het bedrijf in het tweede kwartaal de Amerikaanse DREAM-studie af te ronden waarbij patiënten de Genio-chip ingeplant krijgen om zo slaapapneu te behandelen. In het vierde kwartaal hoopt Nyxoah het IDE-onderzoek in de VS te starten bij CCC-patiënten, slaapapneu waarbij het zachte gehemelte volledig inzakt.

Nyxoah wijzigt bestuur

Ook Nyxoah voert wijzgingen door in het bestuur. De slaapapneuspecialist strikt Raymond Cohen als bestuurder, de CEO van neurostimatiespecialist Axonics Axonics -17,74% , genoteerd op Nasdaq. Daarnaast komt ook Virginia Kirby aan boord, die onder meer bij Medtronic en 3M werkte en nu de dienst voor technologische commercialiseringen leidt aan de universiteit van Minnesota.

Nyxoah kwam nabeurs een kwartaalupdate. Het behaalde een omzet van 660.000 euro met slaapsysteem Genio, voornamelijk in Duitsland waar het bedrijf op 15 sites zijn neurostimulatoren bij patiënten inplant. Op 31 maart had het bedrijf 82,8 miljoen euro in kas.

Degroof Petercam verlaagt koersdoel Nyxoah

Analiste Laura Roba van Degroof Petercam heeft lof voor de verdere ontwikkeling van de commerciële activiteiten van Nyxoah NYXH -1,60%. In het eerste kwartaal kwamen er drie nieuwe sites bij waar de Genio-chip (om slaapapneu te behandelen) werd ingeplant, merkt ze op. In de tweede helft van 2021 kwamen er geen sites bij door het opduiken van de omikronvariant. ‘Deze bemoedigende resultaten versterken de idee van herwonnen commerciële activiteit in 2022, waar het management eerder al had op gewezen’, zegt ze.

Belangrijk is nu het Dream-onderzoek in de VS. De Amerikaanse geneesmiddelenwaakhond FDA heeft ingestemd met Nyxoahs verzoek om het aantal patiënten te verminderen van 134 tot 115, mede dankzij nieuwe en gunstige data van de Better Sleep-studie. Alle overige parameters van de studie blijven onveranderd.

Volgens Olivier Taelman, de CEO van Nyxoah, is het aantal inplantingen in het kader van het Dream-onderzoek de voorbije maand aanzienlijk versneld, zodat de rekrutering tegen het einde van het tweede kwartaal kan worden afgerond. De resultaten van Dream zijn voor volgend jaar voorzien.

Roba verwacht dat de Amerikaanse lancering nu midden 2024 zal plaatsvinden in plaats van midden 2023. Door de vertraagde lancering van Genio in de VS ziet ze de piekpenetratie nu pas na 8 in plaats van 7 jaar. Samen met de uitgestelde commerciële uitbouw en lagere operationele uitgaven zet dit haar ertoe aan haar koersdoel te verlagen van 36,1 tot 32,5 euro. Haar advies blijft ‘kopen’.

Ze breiden uit van 15 naar 25 sites voor implantatie in Duitsland tegen eind Q3. Ceo en financieel directeur gaven aan dat er kwartaal na kwartaal een stijging zal komen van het zakencijfer. Ze doen geen projectie van het zakencijfer maar financieel directeur zei zich comfortabel te voelen bij de projecties van de analisten voor 2022. We gaan dus minimum naar een zakencijfer van 5.000.000€ in 2022 met een marge van 60%. Eind 2022 zijn ze marktleider in Duitsland. Ook uitbreiding naar andere landen in Europa. Dus 2023 wordt dit booming business in Europa. Begrijp echt niet dat niemand dit aandeel oppikt.

Zoals ik het zie heeft Nyxoah een unieke oplossing die me veel gemakkelijker lijkt dan de alternatieven. Bovendien is het aantal potentiele patiënten enorm groot en continu stijgende. Met wat geluk vertienvoudigen ze hun omzet de komende jaren. Ondertussen zit ik met -26%, maar zenuwachtig maakt het me niet. Komt zeker goed!

Dan vraag ik me toch af wat er pakweg het voorbije half jaar is gebeurd waardoor ze intussen gehalveerd zijn in waarde, en alltime-lows scoren.
Van 25 naar 11 is wel heel scherp ondanks het algemene sentiment.

Ik denk dat ze veel gevoeliger reageren in een zenuwachtige markt, omdat ze veel kleiner zijn en ook maar in de opstart fase zitten. Ze hebben geen enkele buffer uit het verleden. De koersval lijkt me ook buiten proportie.

Dat neemt niet weg dat hun oplossing voor een enorm groot en algemeen probleem behoorlijk geniaal is. Als ze hun productieplannen kunnen uitvoeren, gaan ze snel heel wat groter worden en kan er winst gemaakt gaan worden binnen enkele jaren.
