Metinvest Launches 24 New Products in 2022

Despite Russia's aggression in Ukraine, Ukrainian steelmaker Metinvest remains the country's economic and industrial back. Restoring the country's infrastructure and providing Ukrainian consumers with rolled products is one of the main directions for which Metinvest's steel mills have started producing new products. Metinvest has begun production of 24 new products in 2022, including a joint venture, Zaporizhstal, which produced 8 new products. The Group's enterprises, as far as possible, are adapting to new realities and have established the production of new products, in particular, partially compensated for the production of assets in the temporarily occupied Mariupol.
Most of the new products were mastered in the segment of sectional (8), hot-rolled coils and sheets (6) and steel semi-finished products (6). There are also two new positions in the cold-rolled and thick-plated categories of rolled products. The lion's share of the new products was mastered by the Kametstal plant and the Zaporizhstal joint venture. By February 24, 2022, the Azovstal plant produced two new brands of sheet metal for mechanical engineering and the pipe industry.
Semis
Plant "Kametstal" began production of new ingots from four steel grades and hot-rolled blooms of new sizes. The company also began to produce a rectangular billet of 275x325 mm from modified special steel 30??2??.
Hot-rolled coil and sheet
At MK "Zaporizhstal" began to produce hot-rolled sheets with a thickness of 8 mm to 120 mm. These are completely atypical products for mill 1680, but they are extremely necessary for domestic enterprises for the production of building metal structures in conditions when sheet metal from the Group's Mariupol plants is currently unavailable. The plant also began to supply hot-rolled coils of new grades and sizes for enterprises of the machine-building industry, which was previously produced only at Ilyich Steel. Separately, it should be noted the joint work of Metinvest's enterprises to develop technology for smelting, casting, rolling and subsequent thermal processing of steel for the manufacture of rigid armored elements – personal protective equipment for the military, ballistic protection of special-purpose equipment and large-caliber weapons shields. The coordinated actions of various divisions of the company allowed it to overcome the huge shortage of bulletproof vests in Ukraine in a short time and save thousands of lives of our defenders.
Cold rolled coil
MK Zaporizhstal has established the production of two new types of cold-rolled coils. One of them is double-weight rolls without a weld, which are in demand in construction and mechanical engineering. And the other is products with a size of 0.5-0.6 x 1,250 mm from steels, which are intended for the subsequent application of zinc coating. Such coils are needed by enterprises that produce coated rolled products, corrugated board, light steel thin-walled structures and other products by cold profiling.
Rolled products
Most of the new products fell on the category of long products. The plant "Kametstal" produced 7 types of hot-rolled round steel with a diameter of 22 to 38 mm, used in mechanical engineering. The company also mastered the production of the MP-4 profile, which is intended for lining grinding mills at mining and processing plants.
