Miljardeninvestering Volkswagen in batterijenfabriek

Autoredactie/Tweakers 23-09-19, 16:52 Laatste update: 24-09-19, 08:50

SME EFA-S Starts Production of New Electric Van

The Swabian SME EFA-S, which previously specialised in converting used vehicles into all electric trucks is starting production of its own brand-new electric vans. Bastian Beutel, Managing Director of EFA-S said that “Conversion of high-quality used vehicles continues to make sense, as it is both especially environmentally-friendly and cost-effective. It is a means of giving vehicles, where only the drive was no longer compliant with modem environmental standards, a second life. But we also want to give those customers, who do not have old vehicles to convert, quiet, clean and economical electric drives."

This is why EFA-S has agreed to purchase brand-new vehicles without engines and gearboxes from the Russian commercial vehicle manufacturer GAZ, which will then be equipped with electric drives by EFA-S and launched on the local market under the model name E35. The first flatbed models with a tarpaulin cover based on GAZelle NEXT will celebrate their world premiere at the commercial vehicle trade fair NUFAM in Karlsruhe from 26 to 29 September 2019.

Chinese verkoop elektrische auto's zakt in

Dit meldde The Wall Street Journal donderdag.

Porsche Taycan Present Precision Measuring Technology for High Power Charging

Charging the Porsche Taycan for 100 kilometers of NEDC range should take no more than about four minutes. Naturally, when you buy an electric vehicle, you expect infrastructure for high-power charging to exist. The charging stations for electric vehicles publicly available in Germany today mostly supply alternating current with only a relatively low charging output. They take several hours to fully charge a vehicle battery. Direct-current charging stations, with output rates of up to 350 kilowatts, are much faster, earning them the moniker of “high-power chargers.” Charging a sports car like the Taycan for the next 100 kilometers at one of these will really take only a few minutes.

Add to the above that, up until now, no measuring technology existed that conformed to calibration laws. There was no legally approved way to meter the electricity consumed during charging. Compliant metering requires conformity assessment and approval by the PTB, Germany’s national metrology institute. The PTB inspects technology systems to judge whether they comply with the various German measurement and calibration laws. Because certified DC high-power chargers did not exist, and their availability at the launch of the Taycan was uncertain, the specialists at Porsche Engineering went and developed them themselves: Their Porsche DC Energy Meter is a certified meter for DC charging systems with a capacity of up to 350 kilowatts. It establishes the grounds for building a high-power charging infrastructure in time for the Taycan’s launch.

Lead engineer Alexander Schneider-Schaper, who is in charge of the project, said that “We faced quite a challenge—we needed to design a system without actually knowing the precise requirements it needs to meet.”

The next major challenge was then that charging stations themselves offer fairly little space inside. Most of their interior is taken up with connection sockets, the charging cable and its integrated cooling, and the charge control units. To accommodate the additional technology, the engineers decided to design a twopart system comprising the DC Energy Meter itself and a sensor unit measuring current and voltage.

Volvo’s First Electric Car XC40 SUV One of the Safest

Volvo has been teasing an electric version of its XC40 SUV for a while, and now it's ready to dribble out some information. The automaker is boasting that its first EV will be "one of the safest cars on the road" due both to its inherent design and new features. The presence of a battery in the floor of the vehicle helps lower the center of gravity and prevent rollovers, but there's also a new battery structure with a safety cage and crumple zone to protect the lithium-ion cells in the event of a collision. The advance of electric cars constitutes the biggest change in the history of the automobile. For the first time in over a century, cars move without a petrol or diesel engine in the engine bay and have a battery in the floor, changing the car at its core.

Volvo has also reinforced the front and back to both adapt to the lack of a gas engine and to distribute collision forces away from the cabin. There's also some tech that's new to any Volvo this is its first car with an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems array of cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors. The company hasn't gone into detail about how this will work, but it's apparent the electric XC40 will be more aware of its surroundings.

Volvo is planning to tease more details in the run-up to a public reveal on October 16th. Even at this stage, though, it's evident that Volvo didn't just slap a battery into the existing XC40. It's treating this as a distinct model, even if there will be some obvious similarities.

Volkswagen Mille Miglia Green New Long Distance racing for E vehicles

The Mille Miglia is without doubt one of the most legendary classic car rallies worldwide. The “Mille Miglia Green” is a completely new event that borrows the original idea of long-distance racing but only electric and hybrid vehicles are permitted to compete. The first edition of the competition starts from 27–29 September. Just like the traditional event for classic models, it starts in Brescia – and the new e-up! with increased range will be taking part, as well as two electrified e-Beetles.

Mobility and sustainability are at the heart of the “Mille Miglia Green”. On the daily stages, each a maximum of 180 kilometres, the electric vehicles will prove their full capacity including over some areas of demanding terrain. Volkswagen is sending the new e-up! to race the “Mille Miglia Green”. It was only presented to the public around a week ago, at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Its new battery system (now with 32.3 kWh, usable net capacity) extends this vehicle’s range to 260 kilometres. The consumption of the 61 kW / 83 PS e-up! is 12.7 kWh/100 km, meaning that this almost-silent city specialist is tailored to virtually any urban daily distance. Battery charging times are also short: it takes just 60 minutes to charge the battery to 80% of its capacity using DC charging at 40 kW.

Cars are approved in several categories for the Mille Miglia Green: Pure electric vehicles (fuel cell electric vehicles and EV/BEV), hybrids (PHEV, full/mild hybrid etc) and classic cars built up to 1990, either electric or retrofitted with an electric drive system. The two e-Beetles electrified Volkswagen classics will be taking part in the competition, and could become a crowd favourite in Italy. Just like the new e-up!, the e-Beetle also has an electric drivetrain with a single-speed gearbox and a battery system based on the new e-up! The higher output and increased weight that result from electrification requirements necessitate adaptation and reinforcement of the chassis and running gear. Despite a new total weight of 1,280 kg, the electrified Beetle accelerates to 80 km/h in a good eight seconds. This vehicle is capable of 150 km/h top speed.

Participants need to be ready to face around 250 kilometres across the three days of the “Mille Miglia Green”, with the first stage starting in Brescia on Friday evening, before the tour continues in the direction of Milan on Saturday. The route passes a few impressive locations along the road between Brescia and the capital city of Lombardy. On Sunday, the third and final stage takes participants toward Lainate.

Porsche Engineers Presents Precision Measuring Technology for High-Power Charging

Direct current charging stations can charge an electric car in mere minutes. As, however, no meters existed until recently that conformed to calibration laws, Porsche Engineering filled this gap. If you like sporty driving, you dislike long charging stops. That’s why charging the Porsche Taycan for 100 kilometers of NEDC range should take no more than about four minutes. Naturally, when you buy an electric vehicle, you expect infrastructure for high-power charging to exist. The charging stations for electric vehicles publicly available in Germany today mostly supply alternating current with only a relatively low charging output. Lead engineer Alexander Schneider-Schaper, who is in charge of the project said that “We faced quite a challenge—we needed to design a system without actually knowing the precise requirements it needs to meet.”

As late as last fall, there was still only one thing that was definite: Every customer was entitled by law to know precisely how much energy they had acquired and when. This meant that the engineers were forced to start work on the DC Energy Meter while several questions remained as yet unanswered. When work began, the DKE, the German committee on electrical engineering and information technology a body called into being by the German national standards institute DIN and the electrical engineering association VDE was still drafting proposals. The proposed directives then still needed to be submitted to another investigative committee (the REA) for assessment and finally forwarded to the national calibration office.

Nissan EV Leaf Help Buildings Cut Energy Costs And Emissions

A trial using Nissan LEAF electric cars to help power office buildings has proved successful in cutting energy costs and CO2 emissions. The pilot project using Nissan Energy Share technology was launched in December 2018 by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp., NTT Smile Energy, and Nissan. The project uses solar panels mounted on carports to generate energy that helps power an office building. The batteries in the Nissan LEAF electric vehicles are used to store and discharge energy, along with stationary storage systems. Depending on how much electricity is being generated and consumed at any given time, the EVs and stationary systems are remotely directed to charge or discharge energy. By discharging energy during periods of peak demand in summer, the Nissan LEAF cars contributed to a 14.1 kilowatt-hour total reduction in energy use from the grid over a 30-minute interval. The solar panels accounted for 6.6 kWh of this reduction and the LEAF vehicles accounted for 7.5 kWh.

The companies plan to conduct their next trial under winter conditions. They will examine the effect of discharging energy from the stationary storage systems and also study how to avoid new peak demand periods that may be caused by people charging their EVs, as electric cars become more widespread.

NTT Group has committed to EV100, a global initiative bringing together companies that are committed to establishing EV infrastructure and accelerating the transition to electric vehicles. The group plans to fully electrify its car fleet by 2030.

Nissan has sold more than 430,000 Nissan LEAF vehicles since introducing the 100% electric, zero-emission model in 2010. The company has launched numerous partnerships around the world under its Nissan Energy initiative, aimed at saving energy and reducing emissions by connecting EVs with homes, buildings and electric grids.

===================================================================

Volvo XC40 SUV Heralds New Electric Future

The forthcoming battery-powered Volvo XC40 SUV, Volvo Cars’ first fully electric car, proves that Volvo cars can be made better by taking certain things away. The advance of electric cars constitutes the biggest change in the history of the automobile. For the first time in over a century, cars move without a petrol or diesel engine in the engine bay and have a battery in the floor, changing the car at its core. It also means cars no longer need tailpipes or a large grille for cooling purposes, while the removal of an internal combustion engine creates extra room for even more storage space under the front bonnet. At the same time the fully electric XC40 retains all the features that have made it one of Volvo Cars’ best-selling models. It also embraces the elegant, Scandinavian design language that has defined Volvo’s rebirth and combines good looks with utility and functionality.

The battery-powered XC40, first previewed in the electric 40.1 Concept vehicle of 2016, is also an example of smart Volvo engineering. Based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture, which was designed from the outset with electrification in mind, the battery pack is integrated into the floor of the car without affecting interior space.

This means the wealth of suitable and functional storage space around the cabin remains in place as one of the major attractions of the XC40. An ingenious and radical new approach to interior design provides XC40 drivers with, among other things, more functional storage space in the doors and under the seats, a fold-out hook for small bags and a removable waste bin in the tunnel console.

Mr Robin Page, Head of Design at Volvo Cars said that “The roots of Scandinavian design are based on visual clarity and the reduction of element. The XC40 is a great example of this. Its bold, instantly recognisable design is now even sleeker and more modern in the all-electric version. Without the need for a grille we have created an even cleaner and more modern face, while the lack of tailpipes does the same at the rear. This is the approach we will explore more and more as we continue down the road of electrification.”

Bosch Develop More Safety for EV

With more and more electric cars on the road, many drivers are increasingly uncertain what they should do or not do in the event of a collision. Electric motors also present rescue crews with new challenges. In fact, like any other vehicle, electric vehicles are equipped with safety features for such events. For example, Bosch semiconductors help prevent the risk of electric shock after an accident. Specially designed microchips deactivate the vehicle’s power circuits in a fraction of a second. This enables rescue crews to set to work immediately and ensures that first responders and the vehicle’s occupants remain safe. Mr Jens Fabrowsky, member of the executive management of Bosch’s Automotive Electronics division said that “Our semiconductor technology plays a vital role in the safety of hybrid and electric vehicles.”

Bosch supplies vehicle manufacturers with semiconductor chips for incorporation in special systems that safely disconnect the battery in the event of a collision. Mr Karl-Heinz Knorr, vice-president of the German firefighters association said that “Faced with the growing number of electric vehicles that could potentially be involved in collisions, such systems are absolutely essential if we are to fulfill our mission of helping and rescuing victims of road accidents as rapidly and safely as possible.”
