Anthony Fauci isn’t about to quit, despite the White House’s clumsy attempts to stain his public image. More so now than at any other point in their uneasy partnership, it seems that if President Donald Trump wants to be rid of Fauci, he’ll need to fire him. In recent days especially, the White House has stepped up efforts to discredit Fauci, a move he describes as “bizarre.”

“Ultimately, it hurts the president to do that,” Fauci told The Atlantic in a series of interviews this week. “When the staff lets out something like that and the entire scientific and press community push back on it, it ultimately hurts the president.”

He described the White House attacks against him as “nonsense” and “completely wrong.” He also seemed dismayed that they are coming at a time when COVID-19 is surging across the country, deaths are once again rising, and Americans remain deeply confused about how to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

The attempt to discredit Fauci’s public-health expertise is a political move, and one with disastrous implications. As much as Trump wants and needs Americans to see the virus as a nuisance that’s soon to be overcome, Fauci is a recurring reminder that the crisis remains a grave and enduring threat, and that Trump has mishandled the pandemic. The Americans who believe the White House’s anti-science campaign risk cutting themselves off from potentially life-saving information.

“I cannot figure out in my wildest dreams why they would want to do that,” Fauci told The Atlantic, in reference to the White House document. “I think they realize now that that was not a prudent thing to do, because it’s only reflecting negatively on them.

Als u zich afvraagt wat er nodig is voor Donald Trump om eindelijk zijn belaagde en lachwekkende incompetente 2020-campagnemanager Brad Parscale te dumpen, dan heeft u vandaag eindelijk uw antwoord gekregen. Trump werd vanavond getroffen door een brute ronde van nieuwe peilingen, waaronder een Quinnipiac-peiling die Trump een verbazingwekkende vijftien punten lager heeft gezet dan Joe Biden in het hele land, en nu haalt Trump eindelijk de trekker over.

Trump heeft deze nogal amusante tweet zojuist gepost: "Ik ben blij om aan te kondigen dat Bill Stepien is gepromoveerd tot de rol van Trump Campaign Manager. Brad Parscale, die al heel lang bij mij is en onze geweldige digitale en datastrategieën heeft geleid, zal in die rol blijven, terwijl hij een Senior Advisor voor de campagne is. Beiden waren sterk betrokken bij onze historische overwinning in 2016, en ik kijk uit naar een grote en zeer belangrijke tweede overwinning samen. Dit zou een stuk gemakkelijker moeten zijn, aangezien onze opiniepeilingen snel stijgen, de economie beter wordt, er binnenkort vaccins en medicijnen komen en de Amerikanen veilige straten en gemeenschappen willen!

Met andere woorden, Donald Trump degradeert Brad Parscale tot een mindere rol, maar hij probeert Parscale in staat te stellen zijn gezicht te redden. De campagnestrategie van Parscale voor 2020 was een totale ramp. We zullen zien of Stepien grote veranderingen doorvoert in die strategie, en of die veranderingen Trump's vooruitzichten op enigerlei wijze helpen. Maar deze stap maakt duidelijk dat Trump op dit moment zo hard aan het verliezen is, dat zelfs hij nu volledig begrijpt dat hij aan het verliezen is.

In an extended conversation with NPR's Rachel Martin, Mary Trump said on Wednesday that her grandfather and family patriarch Fred Trump rewarded ruthlessness and dismissed any interests outside of the family real estate business, contributing to what she now views as an unfitness on President Trump's part to hold the office of the White House.

"It's kind of ironic in the sense that the traits my grandfather came to value in Donald were the traits that were a result of my grandfather's maltreatment of Donald," she said. "The bullying, the tendency not to care about other people's feelings, the willingness to cheat, lie to get what he wanted. And eventually ... my grandfather started to see a kindred spirit. Somebody who could advance his agenda."

Mary Trump, the president's only niece, describes an abusive and neglectful upbringing suffered by her father and uncles at the hand of Fred Trump, and said she will be supporting her uncle's rival, Joe Biden, in the 2020 election.

A trained psychologist living in New York, she was promoting her highly anticipated new book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man.

Ja wat gaan de GOP leden doen? Zien ze nu hun baantje misschien als kortstondig?

En denken nu binnen te halen wat we maar binnen te halen valt voor eigen privé gebruik.

Ze weten drommels goed dat de kans zeer groot is dat ze straks niet meer aan de bak komen. Ze doen geen enkele moeite om hun republikeinse regering te behouden voor de toekomst. Het lijkt of ze gechanteerd worden, of puur persoonlijke eigenbelang!

Mary L. Trump’s scathing memoir about her uncle, President Donald Trump, is nearly a million seller on preorders alone.

Simon & Schuster announced Thursday that Mary Trump’s “Too Much and Never Enough” had sold a company record 950,000 copies in combined print, digital and audio editions as of its date of sale, earlier this week.

Another anti-Trump book from Simon & Schuster, former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s “The Room Where It Happened,” sold nearly 800,000 copies in its first week when released last month.

President Trump and his allies had tried to stop both books from coming out, alleging that Bolton had revealed classified information and that Mary Trump had violated a nondisclosure agreement. Judges in each case denied requests for injunctions.

De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump is niet van plan afscheid te nemen van Twitter, ondanks de grote hack bij de berichtendienst. "De president blijft op Twitter", benadrukte een woordvoerster van het Witte Huis. Op dit moment doet de FBI onderzoek naar de hack van prominente twitteraars.

Persbureau Reuters schrijft over het onderzoek op basis van twee ingewijden.

De woordvoerster van het Witte Huis zei vandaag ook nog dat het Twitter-account van Trump niet in gevaar is geweest. "Zijn account was veilig en is niet gecompromitteerd tijdens deze aanvallen."

Twitter zegt geen bewijs te hebben dat hackers ook toegang hebben gekregen tot wachtwoorden. "We denken op dit moment niet dat het nodig is om uw wachtwoord te veranderen", laat de berichtendienst weten.

Twitter zegt dat uit voorzorg accounts op slot zijn gegooid waarvan in de afgelopen 30 dagen is geprobeerd het wachtwoord te veranderen. Als mensen geen toegang krijgen tot hun account, betekent dat niet automatisch dat de hackers daar hebben toegeslagen. Het bedrijf wil mensen de controle over hun accounts zo snel mogelijk teruggeven, maar dat kan even duren omdat gecheckt moet worden of toegang wordt verleend aan de rechtmatige eigenaar.

Grote onrust
De hack bij Twitter heeft geleid tot veel onrust. Hackers konden daar de accounts overnemen van grote bedrijven en Amerikaanse sterren, miljardairs en politici. Het ging onder meer om de account van de Democratische rivaal van Trump, oud-vicepresident Joe Biden. Ook diens voormalige politieke baas Barack Obama is getroffen.

Onder de naam van die prominenten verschenen verzoeken om bitcoins over te maken naar een virtuele rekening om meer bitcoins terug te krijgen. Dat verzoek verscheen niet op de Twitterpagina van Trump, die op zijn persoonlijke account ruim 83 miljoen volgers heeft.

Ook een Nederlandse hacker liftte mee op de hack en kon daardoor het account van Geert Wilders binnenkomen. De hacker pastte de profielfoto van Wilders aan naar een karikatuur van een zwarte man en de hoofdfoto veranderde in de vlag van Marokko. "Voor de grap", zegt de hacker tegen RTL Nieuws.

Onderzoek
Het Amerikaanse parlement eist ondertussen opheldering van Twitter over het opzienbarende veiligheidsincident. Twitter moet over een week tekst en uitleg komen geven. Het is nog onduidelijk hoe de daders precies de controle hebben overgenomen over de Twitteraccounts. Twitter zei eerder dat ze mogelijk via een of meerdere medewerkers toegang hebben gekregen.

Niet alleen de Amerikaanse autoriteiten hebben een onderzoek ingesteld. In Nederland liet het Nationaal Cyber Security Centrum van het ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid weten onderzoek te doen naar 'de situatie rond Twitter'.

What had been a two-percentage-point Republican advantage in U.S. party identification and leaning has become an 11-point Democratic advantage, with more of that movement reflecting a loss in Republican identification and leaning (down eight points) than a gain in Democratic identification and leaning (up five points).

Currently, half of U.S. adults identify as Democrats (32%) or are independents who lean toward the Democratic Party (18%). Meanwhile, 39% identify as Republicans (26%) or are Republican leaners (13%).

These results are based on monthly averages of Gallup U.S. telephone surveys in 2020.

In January and February, the months in which the U.S. Senate tried and acquitted President Donald Trump on impeachment charges brought by the House of Representatives, slightly more Americans preferred the Republican Party to the Democratic Party.

In March, as the nation began to deal with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Democrats gained a slight two-point advantage, which persisted in April and May.

The greatest movement occurred in June -- likely because of increased attention to racial injustice that followed the death of George Floyd while in police custody on May 25, as well as increased U.S. struggles to contain the coronavirus spread.

In June alone, there was a three-point increase in Democratic identification and leaning, and a corresponding five-point drop in Republican identification and leaning.

Over the past few weeks, he has become a poster-boy for mask-wearing, bemoaning those who have politicized the issue. He is also caving on the next stimulus bill. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gleefully put it at her weekly news conference on Thursday, “First it was going to be no bill. Then it was going to be some little bill. Then it was going to be $1.3 [trillion]. That’s not enough." She radiated confidence: She will get the Senate’s agreement on state and local funding, Pelosi said. She also noted that McConnell knows how to read the polls and that he listens to his members. The momentum is with Democrats, and he better hop on board — quickly.

The Republican National Committee announced Thursday dramatically scaled down plans for its four-day convention next month in the new host city of Jacksonville, as Florida continues to reel from a surge in coronavirus cases.

In a letter released to delegates on Thursday, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said attendance for the first three nights of the convention would be restricted to regular delegates and no alternates or guests are allowed until the last night on Aug. 27, when President Donald Trump accepts the GOP nomination.

Daily agendas in the sprawling metropolitan area will include a mix of indoor and outdoor events, the letter said. Organizers hinted Trump’s acceptance speech may take place outdoors near the Jacksonville Jaguar’s football stadium, TIAA Bank Field, or an adjoining 5,500-seat amphitheater.

August temperatures in Jacksonville regularly top 90 degrees during the day and only regress five or 10 degrees during the evening, with matching humidity topping 80%.

kosten, dat de fundraising resultaten zelfs als graadmeter voor de populariteit en de polls wordt
gebruikt.

niemand ligt wakker van het feit dat een politicus hiermee min of meer chantabel wordt of
