EUROPE HRC: Shortage drives domestic prices up again
Domestic transaction prices for hot-rolled coil in Northern Europe went up on Wednesday June 23, driven by the continuing shortage of material, sources have told Fastmarkets.
Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, at €1,185.04 ($1,411.73) per tonne on Wednesday, up by €30.04 from €1,155.00 per tonne on June 22.
The index was up by €50.04 per tonne week on week and by €68.37 per tonne month on month.
Mills in Germany and Belgium were reported to be selling lots of about 200-300 tonnes of HRC at €1,200 per tonne ex-works.
Market sources said that transactions for small tonnages of material have been made at €1,150-1,200 per tonne ex-works.
Buyers have also estimated achievable prices at €1,120-1,250 per tonne ex-works.
A few producers have been trading limited volumes of fourth-quarter-rolling HRC. The mills were reported to be avoiding official offers and sold tonnages to certain customers at high prices.
