Autoproducent Stellantis laat krachtig herstel zien

Stellantis heeft het afgelopen half jaar de omzet met bijna de helft zien toenemen en de automaker herstelde daarmee flink van de impact van de coronacrisis. Dit meldde het fusiebedrijf, dat merken als Fiat en Chrysler, Peugeot en Citroën produceert, dinsdag voorbeurs.

De omzet steeg op jaarbasis met 46 procent naar 75,3 miljard euro. Een jaar geleden hielden consumenten nog de hand op de knip door de onzekerheid die de coronacrisis met zich meebracht en de reisbeperkingen die werden ingevoerd.

Het fusieconcern rapporteerde een aangepaste operationele winst van 8,6 miljard euro, waarbij de winstmarge 11,4 procent bedroeg. In Noord-Amerika, waar het vaccineren snel op gang kwam, bedroeg de marge zelfs 16,1 procent bij een recordwinstgevendheid.

Voor alle regio’s hield het concern vast aan de eerder afgegeven groeiverwachting voor 2021, met uitzondering van Amerika, waar de groeiverwachting werd bijgesteld van 8 naar 10 procent.

Het concern denkt dit jaar uit te komen op een aangepaste operationele winstmarge van ongeveer 10 procent.

Meanwhile, a new threat has emerged: suppliers of advanced driver-assistance systems, or ADAS — a bottom-up approach to building autonomous technology — are making massive strides. They already have a great business case, generating profits as they sell their tech to carmakers, constantly upgrade their systems and save lives along the way.

This “go big or go home” approach stands in direct opposition to the step-by-step path of the ADAS players led by suppliers Mobileye, Aptiv, Magna and Bosch, which work with all the major carmakers. Their advances mean most new vehicles already have partial automation — Levels 1 and 2, including cruise control and automated braking. Tesla’s AutoPilot System is the best-known Level 2 system

Willard Tu, senior director of automotive at US chipmaker Xilinx, says it’s only a matter of time before all the bigger automotive groups are performing similar feats. “Every company that’s doing ADAS is now trying to leverage, and create, machine-learning databases,” he says. “Just like Tesla?.?.?.?they are learning to manage troves and troves of data.”

“Lidar will be in almost everything that moves,” he says. “The question will be what business model gets it there.”

TomTom’s Strijbosch argues that the Level 4 cars are “overfitted” with technology because they let costs run amok and need to make up for their small sample sizes. But even if ADAS data is less robust, it can be multiplied by a far greater number of real-world hours and eventually close the gap with Level 4 tech. “By the time we’ve driven so many billions of kilometres, in millions of vehicles that have this whole sensor set-up, all corner cases will have been captured,” he says.

Some already are. Navigation specialist TomTom has equipped more than 3m vehicles with high-definition maps accurate to a few centimetres that get near real-time updates from crowdsourcing. “It’s a continuous stream of data that’s coming in, and that data is exploding — it’s exponential growth,” says Willem Strijbosch, TomTom’s head of autonomous driving.

Als je over veel data kan beschikken dankzij veel auto’s met ADAS en beperkt aantal sensoren en camera’s dan kun je uiteindelijk via de zgn bottom up approach ook naar level 4 groeien….. bij voldoende crowd sourced data is er veel minder kostbare techniek nodig. Die strategie past TT ook toe en daar is TT niet uniek in, met grote passen ben je snel thuis maar zonder level 4.

Allemaal leuke en goede berichten ovet Tomtom maar wat er aan ontbeekt is een CEO a la Egon Musk, die had bij zulke berichten de koers minstens 1 euro hoger gezet. Er zit geen gogme in het bestuur van deze club. Heb vandaag een kwart van mijn positie verkocht met 15 % winst, ik had ze bij de dip voor 6,04 aangeschaft, ga voor een ritje met ING

This is not the first time that Microsoft dabbles in travel. In 2017, Microsoft tested Outings – a personalised travel app. Outings offered personalised recommendations and allowed users to save destinations and experiences and share them with others. Two years later, Microsoft shelved the app and brought improvements to the travel features of Bing.

Microsoft also entered a strategic agreement with Sabre. As part of this new agreement, Microsoft will empower the migration of Sabre’s commercial applications to Microsoft Azure by investing cloud development expertise and services in support of Sabre’s vision to lead an industry evolution in retailing, distribution and fulfilment.

Earlier this year, Microsoft backed the USD2 billion funding round of GM driverless vehicle Cruise as part of a long-term strategic relationship to accelerate the commercialization of self-driving vehicles.

Nog een aardig artikel uit april 2021 waarin de stappen worden uitgelegd voor het maken en onderhouden van HD-maps, in dit geval voor Baidu Apollo. TT is bij de meeste van die 5 stappen betrokken, ook al levert TT niet het kaartmateriaal uit China …. Baidu gebruikt wel de spullenboel van TT.

Baidu said that it will hit mass production in the second half of 2021 for its autonomous driving system and will pre-install Apollo on more car models launched in the market each month.

Li Zhenyu, Senior Corporate Vice President of Baidu and General Manager of the Intelligent Driving Group, made the remarks at the Shanghai auto fair on Monday.

He said the mileage of road testing for L4 autonomous driving has exceeded 10 million kilometers. In addition, Apollo's autonomous driving simulation test has surpassed one billion kilometers, while high-precision maps have been updated every minute.

At the conference, Baidu released new or upgraded solutions combining hardware and software to help automakers build more intelligent vehicles. Apollo's four series of solutions include intelligent driving, intelligent cabin, intelligent map, and intelligent cloud. Intelligent cabin solutions are already empowering 600 types of vehicles from over 70 automakers, with DuerOS for Apollo pre-installed on over one million vehicles. Meanwhile, Apollo's intelligent high-definition map series continued to hold the top market share in 2020 and brought on new automaker partners.

Adding to its existing intelligent driving solutions, Baidu also announced an advanced solution for passenger vehicles called Apollo Navigation Pilot (ANP), which is powered by Apollo's L4 autonomous driving technology. Baidu had previously announced cooperation with automakers Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), Weltmeister, and Great Wall Motors to mass-produce Apollo Valet Parking (AVP), an L4 autonomous parking solution. Apollo's intelligent driving solutions aim to be pre-installed on one million vehicles over the next three-to-five years, bringing a safe and cutting-edge autonomous driving experience to more consumers.

Laat 1.000 mensen raden hoeveel pingpongballen er in een volle emmer zitten en het gemiddelde van al hun schattingen zal extreem dichtbij het daadwerkelijke aantal zitten.

Dat is het verschil tussen miljoenen auto’s die met tomtom ADAS maps rijden en high tech bedrijven die auto’s nodig hebben die helemaal volhangen met dure sensoren en camera’s om te compenseren voor de beperkte hoeveelheid keren dat ze door een bepaalde straat hebben gereden.
