De houding van Teslin bij Ordina is veelzeggend, liever verkopen aan PE dan toestaan dat Ordina zelf uitbreidt.

Teslin zoekt vaak kansen om aandeelhouderswaarde te creëren door PE binnen te halen. Ordina is weer zo'n voorbeeld, TomTom hopelijk het volgende initiatief. Goddijn met pensioen en KKR of HAL erin.

SXSW 2023: Making maps and location tech is really hard, but not if we do it together

There are two sides to working with location data: the software side and the data side, Marc Prioleau, Head of Location Partnerships at Meta, says. The software is the easier part, it’s the data that’s hard.

“Maps are a digital representation of the physical world, and it has this annoying habit of changing; that’s problem one,” Prioleau says. “Problem two is, y’all want more and more out of your maps. 10 years ago, expectations were low, now your expectations are skyrocketing.”

There’s more nuance to it than that, though; creating or sourcing data is not the difficult part. There are sensors and people generating this data everywhere — cars, phones, roadside traffic monitors, user feedback, they all send data to inform the map. According to Mike Harrell, SVP Engineering Maps at TomTom, there’s “an incredible amount of data, a tsunami of data.” In fact, there are some 6 billion plus data points gathered every day.

The difficult part is taking that data and turning it into something useful and meaningful.

With apps today, people are pressing buttons and having the world orient around them. The map is central to how they make sense of the world, it’s not something they use simply to get from A to B. As Prioleau says, maps are becoming a central organizing factor in people’s lives, and that’s what’s moving mapping and the underlying data to the forefront of tech innovation.

The skyrocketing adoption of mobile navigation solutions, including Google Maps and Waze, is forcing Navman to rethink the company’s long-term focus.

Navman will continue to offer products in Australia, but in the long term, the company’s main product locally will be the range of dashcams.

Customers who have already purchased Navman navigation devices will be provided with map updates until 2026. The policy applies only to products manufactured since 2020.

Navman admits that competing against mobile navigation apps has become increasingly difficult lately. The company says that its total sales include over 3 million navigators in New Zealand and Australia. In 2022, Navman barely sold 30,000 devices.

The growing adoption of the likes of Google Maps wasn’t the only cause behind Navman’s decision. The firm says the last few years produced additional challenges in terms of component cost and sourcing screens and chips. Eventually, producing sat-nav devices in a market where sales were collapsing no longer made sense in the long term.

Adoption figures for Google Maps and Waze are not available. Google Maps comes pre-loaded on Android, while Apple Maps is the default navigation solution on iPhones. According to the Google Play Store, Google Maps has so far recorded over 10 billion downloads. Waze was downloaded over 100 million times on Android alone.

Most mobile navigation apps also come with support for Android Auto and CarPlay. Smartphones can be connected to compatible head units in cars to mirror the navigation experience on the larger screens on the dashboard. As such, Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps can replace a dedicated sat-nav unit entirely.

More often than not, they also provide more advanced capabilities, such as real-time traffic information, incident reporting, and more frequent map updates. The new functionality ships more conveniently than a firmware update for a GPS navigator, as all improvements can be included in app updates delivered through app stores.

Google Maps krijgt eindelijk de langverwachte Immersive View-weergave

Naast deze nieuwe weergave kondigt Google milieuvriendelijke routes voor Europa aan. Deze routes waren vorig jaar al in de Verenigde Staten en Canada beschikbaar. Hiermee kan je de meest brandstofefficiënte route selecteren en zo geld besparen op brandstof. Wanneer het verschil in tijd tussen twee routes weinig uitmaakt, gaat Google Maps automatisch de route nemen die je auto het minste CO2 laat uitstoten. Is er wel een groot verschil in aankomsttijd, dan kan je zelf kiezen tussen de snelste en de meest ecovriendelijke route. De functie komt later dit jaar naar Europa.

Ik zag bij de Giro dat Teslin momenteel 5,1% TT aandelen bezit. Echter dat kunnen er momenteel ook 9,99 % zijn omdat tot, ik meen, tot dit percentage er geen meldingsplicht is voor Teslin.

De eerste melding was 3%, laatste melding 5%. De volgende meldingsplicht is 10%, ik ben niet verbaasd als ze al onderweg zijn naar de 10%.......

Dat wordt hier al vanaf de 5% melding in juli beweerd.
Vaak i.c.m. dat Citadel in opdracht van Teslin werkt.

Op naar het volgende compromis/uitzondering.

Toch verbrandingsmotoren na 2035: ‘EU akkoord met e-fuels’

De kogel leek al door de kerk: na 2035 mochten er geen nieuwe auto's met verbrandingsmotor verkocht worden. Maar Duitsland lag dwars en krijgt nu zijn zin. De EU maakt een uitzondering voor auto's die uitsluitend op e-fuels kunnen rijden.

Voorwaarde moet zijn dat de nieuwe voertuigcategorie technisch gezien alleen kan rijden op synthetische brandstoffen die met behulp van elektriciteit worden opgewekt. Volgens het ontwerp moeten deze auto’s kunnen herkennen wanneer conventionele benzine of diesel is getankt en vervolgens automatisch uitschakelen.

e-fuels zijn duur en inefficiënt
Het grote nadeel van deze synthetische brandstoffen is dat ze nu nog maar mondjesmaat geproduceerd worden. Ook worden ze met een literprijs van zo'n vier euro per liter gezien als duur en zijn ze inefficiënt. Met dezelfde energie die nodig is om de e-fuel te maken waar een auto 100 kilometer op kan rijden, kan een batterij-elektrische auto ongeveer 700 kilometer rijden.

Ja, dat klopt en is idd een plausibel scenario.

Ik vind het nu weer actueel, gezien de rol van Teslin bij Ordina.

Na TenCate, Accell, Ordina (allemaal achterkamertjes) ten nadele van kleine aandeelhouders, komt TomTom als volgende.
