three semiconductor product packaging companies will be sharing packaging orders for Apple’s upcoming A8 chip. Amkor Technology (NASDAQ:AMKR) and STATS ChipPAC will each handle 40 percent of the orders, while Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (NYSE:ASX) will provide the remaining 20 percent share of the total packaging orders.

“2013 was a banner year for Amkor,” said Steve Kelley, Amkor’s president and chief executive officer, in Monday’s earnings call. “We’re actively expanding our customer base and building our solid executive team. We expect year-in-year growth in 2014.”

Amkor reported a loss contingency of $56 million in 2012 and $11 million in 2013 relating to its pending patent license litigation with Tessera Technologies Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based technology company.

Amkor is expecting the first quarter of 2014 to be down, mostly due to seasonality and the “continuing weakness in the high-end of the mobile device market,” said Joanne Solomon, Amkor’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, in a statement.

“For the full year, we see sequential growth in the second quarter, followed by a strong second half tied to the launch of flagship mobile devices,” Solomon said.

Amkor is expecting to spend $450 million in 2014 capital expenditures.
