TOKIO (ANP/BLOOMBERG) - De Japanse autobouwers Toyota en Honda willen hun fabrieken in China volgende week weer openen. De vestigingen moesten eerder nog worden gesloten vanwege de verspreiding van het nieuwe coronavirus.
Medewerkers van Toyota in China die niet bij de assemblage van auto's betrokken zijn, gaan begin volgende al week weer aan de slag. Toyota wil zijn productie opstarten "zodra het veilig is en de situatie voldoende onder controle is". Naar verwachting gaan de lopende banden in de Chinese fabrieken van het bedrijf op 17 februari weer draaien.
Branchegenoot Honda streeft ernaar zijn productielocatie in de provincie Hubei, het epicentrum van de virusuitbraak, volgende week vrijdag te heropenen. De week daarop kan de productie van auto's en motorfietsen waarschijnlijk hervat worden, denkt het bedrijf.
Tekorten
Honda kan nog niets zeggen over de financiële gevolgen voor het bedrijf door het virus. Vorig kwartaal brachten de Japanners zo'n 150.000 voertuigen minder aan de man. Mede waardoor zakte de kwartaalwinst op jaarbasis met bijna een derde. De totale opbrengsten zakten met bijna 6 procent tot 3,7 biljoen yen. Dat is omgerekend 31 miljard euro.
Autoconcerns met fabrieken buiten China kampen vooral met problemen in de leveringsketens door het Wuhan-virus. Hyundai schortte eerder zijn productie in Zuid-Korea op. Het Japanse Suzuki kampt ook met tekorten aan componenten en onderzoekt mogelijkheden om deze buiten China te bestellen.
