MOSKOU (AFN/RTR) - Rusland gaat tot oktober de invoer van olieproducten staken. De strenge maatregelen om het coronavirus te beteugelen, resulteerden in ineenstorting van de olievraag met zeer lage prijzen voor verschillende brandstoffen zoals benzine en diesel tot gevolg. Een importverbod moet de komende maanden voorkomen dat goedkope olie uit het buitenland op de Russische markt terechtkomt.
Wit-Rusland is een van grootste exporteurs van benzine naar Rusland. Het buurland produceert drie keer zo veel benzine als nodig voor de eigen consumptie en stuurt jaarlijks zo'n 2000 ton benzine naar Rusland toe. Rusland importeert olieproducten ook uit andere landen maar in kleinere volumes.
De verkopen van benzine lagen begin afgelopen maand 60 procent lager dan een jaar eerder. De verkoop van diesel zakte nog sterker. Russen mochten tijdens de lockdown zonder een geldige reden niet naar buiten, waardoor het gebruik van de auto sterk afnam. Ook waren veel fabrieken dicht en bleven veel vliegtuigen aan de grond.
