Brill, the international scholarly publisher, is pleased to announce the launch of the Brill Book Archive which will include Brill book titles published since its foundation in 1683 in digital format. The archive offers researchers the opportunity to explore three centuries of academic excellence in the Humanities, Social Sciences, International Law and Biology. It allows libraries to continue to build a permanent record of academic literature that is accessible and sustainable for generations.
Brill's Chief Publishing Officer Jasmin Lange, says: “Brill has been a trusted partner of researchers and libraries for hundreds of years. We had the honor to publish iconic authors who have made a lasting impact and have been an inspiration for researchers until today. Book series such as the Handbook of Oriental Studies, Sinica Leidensia, International Studies in Human Rights or History of Warfare provide foundational research which will allow researchers to deep dive in the history of the Humanities and Social Sciences. We are proud that our treasures are coming to life again and will be made available digitally to the scholarly community around the world. We owe great thanks to the Dutch National Library, Leiden University Library and the Peace Palace Library for making parts of their collections available to us. Without our library partners, this special project would not have been possible.”
The Brill Book Archive launches today with over 6,000 titles in 12 subject collections and 48 book series digitized back to Volume 1. We plan to make the remaining 14,000 titles available in 2023. All books have been carefully digitized and optimized to deliver high-quality, full-text searchable e-books in PDF format. All books are available DRM-free and are offered as one collection, as subject collection(s), from our Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) and E-Book Select programs, as well as through our E-Book Vendors. Out of print titles will now be available again.
