Sif wins second customer for marshalling services in Rotterdam

Siemens Gamesa becomes the second customer of Sif’s new marshalling business at its production facility in Rotterdam. Sif launched the marshalling business last year saying it expects double-digit million euros in revenue within 2 to 3 years as the North Sea wind industry continues to grow.
The new marshalling services were launched last August with Deme Offshore as first customer. The Belgian contractor will use the site for the construction of the Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farms. The contract with Siemens Gamesa will start in 2021 and run until 2023.
Driven by client demand Sif leased an extra 20 hectares of terminal space which contractors can use for storage, logistics, assembly and demobilization purposes. The company will facilitate clients with SPMT’s, gantry cranes, crawler cranes and telescopic cranes for onsite transportation and other marshalling activities at its Maasvlakte-facility. The equipment is leased by Sif on a project-specific basis.
“We foresee a structural demand for these services”, said CEO Fred van Beers at the launch of the new business last year. The company’s core business is the manufacturing of foundations for offshore wind turbine generators.
The quay facilities of the Maasvlakte terminal will be expanded by 200 meters by mid-2023 and will have a depth of 16.5 metres. It will allow for close-to-quay jacking and offers a surface load of 10 Kn/m2.
Sif recorded an income EUR 20.8 million in the first quarter of 2020, which is an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period last year. The operating profit (ebitda) amounted to EUR 2.7 million compared to EUR 4.1 million last year.
The manufacturer’s order book currently stands at 135 kilotonnes of steel for 2020 and 230 kilotonnes for 2021 and beyond.
