Over het faillissement van DSB valt zoveel meer te zeggen dan jij hier doet;
Slavenburg is overgenomen door de Credit Lyonnais Bank;

Contractor expected to complete development in early 2021

King's Cross, Canal Reach

Bam has been appointed to build another office development at King’s Cross in London.

The contractor will put up the Bennett Associates-designed suite of new buildings (pictured) for the King’s Cross Partnership, a venture between developer Argent and Hermes Investment Management.

The work includes two buildings providing BREEAM Outstanding office accommodation and once finished, plots T2 and T3 will become known as 11-21 Canal Reach.

The building on plot T2 will be 12 storeys high at its highest point at the southern end of the site, stepping down to nine storeys towards the north.

Bam, which recently finished Coal Drops Yard, also at King’s Cross, said completion of the Canal Reach project is expected in early 2021.

Financial details of the scheme have not been released.

BAM confirmed for Facebook UK HQ job
Aaron Morby
BAM has been confirmed to build Facebook’s new 415,000 sq ft headquarters building at the King’s Cross development in London.

The contract is thought to be worth over £200m and ranks as BAM Construction’s largest project.

It is also a consolation for the BAM Kings Cross team, which had originally been earmarked to build Google’s 1m sq ft UK HQ at the regeneration scheme.

But this was lifted from the firm’s grasp after an eleventh-hour decision by Google to take the project back to the drawing board for a major redesign.

The buildings will span plot T2 and T3 on the northern part of the site and will become known as 11-21 Canal Reach when they are finished in early 2021.

Designed by architect Bennetts Associates the two curving Facebook buildings are expected to be rated BREEAM Outstanding offices.

The building on plot T2 will be 12 storeys high at its highest point at the southern end of the site, stepping down to nine storeys towards the north. There will be impressive roof terraces with views across the city.

BAM is onsite already with a substantial enabling and substructure works package before the main scheme commences in earnest.

Construction Director Ewen Hunter, who has led for BAM on several of the buildings at King’s Cross, said: “Nothing at King’s Cross is ordinary. Every building is ambitious and the client is constantly pushing what can be achieved for itself and others.

“Our teams embrace the challenge and our integrated model, involving our design and engineering businesses, makes us an ideal fit for the scale and complexity of this big building with a demanding design.”

The project is the last large building job in the transformation of King’s Cross, led by developer Argent through the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership.

While three contractors were selected for the site-wide regeneration scheme, BAM has ended up building the lion’s share of projects compared to fellow delivery partners Kier and Carillion.

Full screen Bam lands Facebook office in biggest ever contract win Canal Reach

Bam Construction has won the deal to deliver the 11-21 Canal Reach buildings in London's King's Cross that will house Facebook's offices.

The contractor, which recently completed the Coal Drops Yard scheme at King's Cross, will build the Bennetts Associates-designed buildings that will provide the social network with 415,000 sq ft of floorspace.

It marks the largest contract signed in Bam's UK history, though its value has not been disclosed. The firm's biggest previous contract was the £165m Medical Research Council laboratory in Cambridge.

The Canal Reach development comprises two buildings that will aim to achieve BREEAM Outstanding.

One of the offices will top out at 12 storeys at the southern end of the site, reducing to nine storeys towards the north. Bam said the finished scheme would include “impressive roof terraces with views across the city”.

It was announced that Facebook would be moving to the buildings in July, in a move welcomed by mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

The social media giant currently has UK offices in London's Rathbone Place and Brock Street, and will occupy the P2 building at King's Cross as well as 11 and 21 Canal Reach.

Bam is on site already delivering an enabling and substructure works package ahead of the main scheme commencing, with the expectation of completing early in 2021.

Construction director Ewen Hunter, who has led on several buildings at King's Cross, said: “Nothing at King's Cross is ordinary. Every building is ambitious and the client is constantly pushing what can be achieved for itself and others.

“Our teams embrace the challenge and our integrated model, involving our design and engineering businesses, makes us an ideal fit for the scale and complexity of this big building with a demanding design.”

Facebook building gives BAM its biggest ever contract
1-21 Canal Reach has been designed by Bennett Associates

King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP) has chosen BAM to build what will be the UK headquarters of social media enterprise Facebook.

Although contract price and gross development value remain commercially confidential, BAM said that it was the largest contract that the company had ever won.

The suite of buildings, on Plots T2 and T3, has been designed by Bennett Associates to be the lowest-carbon high-quality commercial office building in the UK. When they are finished they will become known as 11-21 Canal Reach.

The building on plot T2 will be 12 storeys high at its highest point at the southern end of the site, stepping down to nine storeys towards the north. Roof terraces will provide views across the city.

BAM recently completed the newest King’s Cross landmark, Coal Drops Yard. It is already onsite on the new project, with a substantial enabling and substructure works package before the main scheme starts in earnest. Completion is expected in early 2021.

Construction director Ewen Hunter, who has led for BAM on several of the buildings at King’s Cross, said: “Nothing at King’s Cross is ordinary. Every building is ambitious and the client is constantly pushing what can be achieved for itself and others. Our teams embrace the challenge and our integrated model, involving our design and engineering businesses, makes us an ideal fit for the scale and complexity of this big building with a demanding design.”

BAM previous biggest contract was the £165m Medical Research Council laboratory in Cambridge.

Column: Krachtig neerwaartse AEX begin 2019
