Hello everyone and welcome back to Loukisha Story. Today’s topic might cause major problems in the #RareDisease community, however sooner or later it will create unthinkable problems for everyone connected to the health.
The new trend is changing the category that a medicine, procedures, or supplies recently existed in. This new policy is downright frightening. The new system is absolutely confusing because pharmacies, doctor’s offices, and even the insurance companies don’t understand this new policy.
At a glance it doesn’t seem that harmful, however it didn’t take long for me to see the danger in this new policy change. A process that was easy and efficient to order my #HAE meds is now a long drawn out mess. A mass scramble has begun in many medical institutions and companies to gain control of the skyrocketing prices. However this change is affecting individuals with #RareDisease and illnesses that require expensive treatments, by moving them from Pharmacy to Medical benefits.
Though this change is a positive step for health insurance companies many including myself will suffer. Each time I must file a prior authorization to order my medications and supplies. The trouble is it creates more red tape and the insurance company can deny and delay my request, in hopes of saving money.
What many don’t know is the process can take several days or even weeks (in my case weeks)! Meanwhile I’m caught in the middle of the doctors, pharmacies, insurance, and drug manufacturers, crossing my fingers that I don’t run out of my life saving medicines. My ohana and I are very concerned that if I get stuck in the crossfire it will greatly increasing the danger of me having a life threatening swell.
The current state of the medical system is quite alarming, and if no one makes logical, sustainable changes many will needlessly perish. Until decisions are made looking at actual people instead of statistics, people will continue to shamefully lose their lives.
Have you experienced this new policy change? Do you feel health insurance companies can make medical decisions in lieu of a trained medical doctor? I would love to hear from you, please share in the comment section below.
en daarom denk ik dat Pharming met Ruconest bij de insurance companies op 1 staat omdat er nu in eerste instantie naar de Medical benefits (ander woord voor financiele voordelen)
