Vattenfall new turbines proposed near to Aberdeenshire wind farm

Vattenfall, the Swedish energy company, announced that plans for additional wind turbines next to an operating wind farm in Aberdeenshire. The developer is seeking opinions from technical specialists and the public on early ideas for a 16 turbine extension to Clashindarroch Wind Farm, which has been generating clean, green electricity since 2015.

Siemens Win Power secures wind turbines contract in northern Germany

Power-Technology reported that Siemens Wind Power has secured two contracts for supplying 13 of its gearless turbines to Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein states in northern Germany.

As part of the deal, Siemens Wind Power will be responsible for installation and commissioning its six units of SWT-3.3-130 to WPD Windpark Damme, an electric utility company operating in Damme region.

Siemens will supply seven units of the type SWT-3.0-113, for the Karlum project in the northern part of Schleswig-Holstein.

The deal will also see Siemens provide maintenance services to WPD Windpark Damme for a period of 15 years and 20 years for the Karlum project.

Siemens has already worked with WPD Windpark Damme last year, where it commissioned its wind turbines for a project near the A1 motorway and was connected to the power grid in the same year.

EU clears Siemens' acquisition of wind turbine maker Gamesa

AP reported that the European Union has cleared German conglomerate Siemens' planned acquisition of Spain-based wind turbine maker Gamesa.

The EU's executive Commission said Monday that the deal "raises no competition concerns, because a number of credible competitors would remain in the market." It was cleared unconditionally.

Siemens in June announced plans to take a 59 percent stake in Gamesa, with current Gamesa shareholders continuing to own the remaining 41 percent. It plans to merge its own wind business with Gamesa, and the combined company will have its global headquarters in Spain.

Infinergy to proceed with Dutch wind project for Tata Steel

Renewables Now reported that UK renewables developer Infinergy Ltd has won a planning permission for an up to 9 MW wind farm to be built at a Dutch steel plant for India’s Tata Steel Ltd.

Infinergy said today that local authorities in the Dutch province of North Holland have approved its plans to install three wind turbines at Tata Steel’s IJmuiden factory, located to the north of Amsterdam.

Mr Esbjorn Wilmar CEO said that “We worked very closely with Tata Steel to ensure the wind turbines will not interfere with their core business, which includes all processes and safety regulations that are associated with producing steel.”

The project is expected to be completed by the autumn of 2018. It will use turbines with an individual capacity of 2 MW or 3 MW.

This is Infinergy’s first planning permission since its top managers bought out the company earlier this month.

Scotland approves 12MW floating wind farm - report

Energy Live News reported that a 12MW demonstration floating wind farm in Scotland has been granted planning consent. The two turbine Dounreay Tri project, which will be located six kilometres off the Caithness coastline, is expected to power nearly 8,000 homes upon its completion in 2018.

It’s expected to support the creation of around 100 jobs during assembly, installation and through ongoing operations and maintenance activities.

The decision follows the recent approval of the Kincardine floating wind farm and last year’s consent of the Hywind pilot project.

In total, Scotland has now agreed planning permission for up to 92MW of floating offshore wind, enough to power nearly 60,000 households.

Scottish Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, Paul Wheelhouse, said: “Once operational, this demonstrator project will help to develop this pioneering technology and cement Scotland’s reputation at the forefront of innovation in the renewables sector.

“This not only highlights our commitment to exploring this innovative technology but offers real scope for the development of wind energy projects in deeper water, in Scotland and across the world.”

The oldest offshore wind farm in the world is being decommissioned after 25 years of service.

Siemens 44MW aerospace derived gas turbine for mobile power generation

Equipment of this sort is a necessary and essential partner for the wind industry because it can provide power when the wind decides not to cooperate. Late last year, spot market power prices in Germany spiked to over €124/MWh because of high power demands and a lack of other reserves. The Siemens turbine could provide the new reserves.

The mobile unit is said to be an ideal choice for critical power needs. The package is built with durable industrial components capable of prolonged operation and demanding duties.

A product has been added to the Siemens gas turbine portfolio: The SGT-A45 TR mobile unit addresses the growing market for fast power. With an electrical generating capacity of up to 44 megawatts, this aeroderivative gas turbine is packaged for rapid deployment and can be installed in less than two weeks. Its design features outstanding power density, high fuel efficiency and excellent operational flexibility. This makes it particularly beneficial for customers with urgent power needs or in regions with less developed infrastructures.

This innovative mobile power generation unit from Siemens provides significantly more electrical output than comparable models currently on the market. This means that in most cases fewer turbine units are required to produce the total desired plant output. The SGT-A45 TR design is based on proven Siemens products and Rolls-Royce Aero-Engine technology. The gas turbine core utilizes components from the Siemens Industrial Trent 60 that have been adapted to a proven free power turbine. This design leverages the know-how and experience gained from millions of operating hours accumulated in flight, industrial and marine service.

The standardization and modular design of the package enable rapid deployment and installation. Each unit is fully assembled and tested at the factory in order to verify operation and performance and minimize the scope of commissioning work needed at site.

Transport of the gas turbine is facilitated by its compact design and relatively low weight. When required, the unit can be flown as air cargo to its installation site. The SGT-A45 TR gas turbine can run on gas or liquid fuels, and transition smoothly between both fuel types while in operation. This provides greater flexibility and ensures continued operation in case the main fuel supply becomes unavailable. Low NOx emissions can be achieved with optional water injection, which also boosts the unit’s power output particularly in warm climates.

The mobile unit is an ideal choice for critical power needs. The package is built with durable industrial components capable of prolonged operation and demanding duties. The aeroderivative gas turbine can generate full power in less than 9 minutes from start without need for auxiliary systems to maintain the unit in an operationally ready standby mode. In the event of a shutdown, the unit can be restarted at any time to restore power quickly, as it has no “hot lockout” restrictions.

Mr Nick Muntz, CEO of Siemens’ Distributed Generation business unit, said that “This innovative Siemens gas turbine will provide flexible and rapid supply of electricity, enabling it to quickly support critical power needs. The compact design of the SGT-A45 TR is especially well-suited for mobile power, for example in Africa or Southeast Asia, allowing us to capture a quickly growing market segment.”

German spot power price jumps on sharp fall in wind output

Reuters reported that European spot power prices for day-ahead delivery rose on Tuesday due to a forecast sharp fall in wind power production and a rise in demand, with the German contract rising sharply.

The German baseload contract for Wednesday delivery rose 26.25 percent to touch a one-month high of 38.25 euros ($41.24) per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The equivalent French contract added 1.27 percent to 40 euros/MWh.

The report said that wind power production from German wind turbines is expected to tumble by over 13 gigawatts (GW) to 4.8 GW day-on-day on Wednesday. Solar power output will fall by 150 megawatts.

In France, consumption is expected to rise by 1.3 GW to nearly 60 GW on Wednesday as weather forecasts showed temperatures falling by average 1.2 degree Celsius.

TenneT haalt miljard op voor windparken

ARNHEM (AFN) - Hoogspanningsnetbeheerder TenneT heeft 1 miljard euro opgehaald voor de financiering van netaansluitingen van windparken op zee. Dat maakte het bedrijf woensdag bekend. TenneT gaf zogeheten groene hybride obligaties uit met een rendement van krap 3 procent en een looptijd van 7 jaar.

In de komende tien jaar steekt TenneT naar verwachting 9 miljard tot 11 miljard euro in offshore-windenergieprojecten in Nederland en Duitsland.

In de periode tot 2019 verwacht TenneT 7000 megawatt aan aansluitcapaciteit te realiseren in het Duitse gedeelte van de Noordzee, genoeg voor het transport van het jaarlijkse stroomverbruik van 7 miljoen huishoudens. Voor de kust van Nederland verwacht TenneT in 2023 circa 3500 megawatt aan aansluitcapaciteit te hebben gerealiseerd.

EU approves Danish support for offshore wind energy farm

The European Commission said that Denmark's support for the 600 megawatt Kriegers Flak offshore windfarm is in line with the European Union's state aid rules.

Competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement, that "The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm will help to cut carbon dioxide emissions while the support is carefully designed to avoid distorting competition in electricity markets."

Ms Vestager said that "I'm glad to be able to approve state support for this project."

Aanhoudingen in onderzoek naar beleggingsfraude bij Hollandsche Wind

De soap rond Hollandsche Wind krijgt een nieuw hoofdstuk. De FIOD heeft gisteren doorzoekingen verricht in 4 woningen (Zutphen, Steenderen, Hengelo en Terschuur) en bij 5 bedrijfslocaties (Amersfoort , Den Haag, Lelystad en Arnhem). Er zijn 3 verdachten aangehouden. Er is beslag gelegd op meerdere auto’s. Bij de actie waren ca. 100 mensen betrokken. Het onderzoek staat onder leiding van het Functioneel Parket en is in samenwerking met de Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) tot stand gekomen.

Hollandse Wind werd half maart failliet verklaard, slechts een week nadat de FIOD beslaglegging deed bij het bedrijf.

De doorzoekingen en aanhoudingen van deze week vonden plaats in het kader van een strafrechtelijk onderzoek naar fraude met beleggingen in windmolenparken en vastgoed. Eerder werd dus al beslag gelegd op bankrekeningen en onroerend goed in dit onderzoek met een geschatte waarde van meer dan 3 miljoen euro. Het fraudebedrag wordt op dit moment op meer dan 8 miljoen euro geschat. Het onderzoek naar de totale omvang van de fraude wordt voortgezet.

Volgens de websites van de beleggingsproducten met de namen Hollandsche Wind en Noordenwind wordt het ingelegde geld geïnvesteerd in windmolenparken en vastgoed. Hierbij worden aan investeerders hoge rendementen beloofd. Het vermoeden is echter dat het ingelegde geld anders besteed wordt dan beloofd en dat het hier om beleggingsfraude gaat. Verdachten zouden inmiddels nieuwe beleggingsproducten uitgeven onder de naam Morvan Capital en Bright Invest.

Het onderzoek is gestart na aangiften van diverse banken. Zij zagen grote onverklaarbare stortingen op bankrekeningen en meldden dit bij de FIOD.

Vermoeden van piramidesysteem Hollandsche Wind

De FIOD maakte begin dit jaar bekend dat zij fraude vermoedt bij beleggingsfondsen Hollandsche Wind en Noordenwind (niet te verwarren met HollandseWind van energiebedrijf Eneco). Er zou mogelijk sprake zijn van een piramidespel. De FIOD heeft beslag gelegd op diverse bankrekeningen en onroerend goed.

Het onderzoek van de FIOD zou zijn gestart na meldingen van diverse banken over niet-alledaagse transacties.

Veel varianten van piramidesysteem

Piramidesystemen komen in veel varianten voor. Het Burgerlijk wetboek omschrijft het piramidesysteem als het opzetten, beheren of aanbevelen van een systeem waarbij een consument tegen betaling kans maakt op een vergoeding die eerder voortkomt uit het aanbrengen van nieuwe consumenten in het systeem dan uit de verkoop of het verbruik van goederen. Deze activiteit staat op de zwarte lijst van misleidende handelspraktijken en is daarmee in alle gevallen onrechtmatig.
Een bekende variant op de beleggersmarkt betreft de Ponzi-scheme of Ponzi-fraude. Een Ponzi-fraude kenmerkt zich door het aanbieden van (veelal niet bestaande) beleggingen waarbij de uitbetaalde gelden geheel of gedeeltelijk worden gefinancierd met de inleg van andere beleggers. Denk aan de activiteiten van wonderbelegger Madoff en naamgever Ponzi.

Buiten toezicht AFM

Blijkens rechtspraak van de afgelopen jaren lukt het fraudeurs nog altijd om beleggers over te halen om hun geld te investeren. Alhoewel buitensporig hoge rendementen een onmiskenbare red flag zijn, bedienen de fraudeurs zich doorgaans van keurig ogende beleggingsvehikels. Een vergunning- of prospectusplicht wordt door middel van de bekende vrijstellingen gemakkelijk ontlopen. De frauders opereren daarmee grotendeels buiten het toezicht van de AFM.

Beleggers proberen schade te verhalen

Alhoewel beleggers met een strafrechtelijke- en mogelijk bestuursrechtelijke veroordeling in de hand een succesvolle case hebben om hun geld terug te eisen, blijkt in praktijk dat het geld simpelweg zoek is. Als de beleggingsvehikels failliet gaan, rest niets dan een persoonlijke aansprakelijkstelling van bij de fraude betrokken personen.

Beleggers die bij de fraudeurs achter het net vissen, proberen hun schade nogal eens te verhalen op de betrokken bank. De bank wordt verweten dat zij had moeten constateren dat er misstanden plaatsvonden en dat er in strijd werd gehandeld met het financieel toezichtrecht. Deze 'derden-aansprakelijkheid', die voortvloeit uit de maatschappelijke taak van de bank, is een lastig fenomeen voor de bank.

Ook banken slaan alarm

Immers, indien het zuiver om betaalrekeningen gaat, kan van de bank moeilijk worden verwacht dat zij alle fraudes (tijdig) in de gaten heeft. Maar als er feiten en omstandigheden zijn die maken dat de bank terdege op de hoogte was of had moeten zijn, kunnen beleggers mogelijk verhaal halen op de diepe zakken van de bank. Mede om die reden zullen de banken na constatering alarm hebben geslagen. Zij riskeren zelf ook schadeclaims van gedupeerde beleggers.

Ongeacht de uitkomsten van het onderzoek doen beleggers die hebben geïnvesteerd in Hollandsche Wind en Noordenwind er goed aan om hun aansprakelijkstellingen vast op de bus te doen. Ook al staat er volgens Hollandsche Wind nog 'een groot bedrag' op de rekening.

Huisman introduces new crane type for offshore wind turbine maintenance

Huisman, the worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions has developed an extremely lightweight type crane for the maintenance of offshore wind turbines: the 'Foldable Offshore Crane'. This crane combines unparalleled lifting heights and more than sufficient lifting capacity with a foldable boom resulting in less required deck space and a low own weight of the crane. The selection of this crane for the maintenance of offshore wind turbines will therefore require a smaller, and thus more cost effective, jack-up vessel than currently required.

David Roodenburg, Director Strategy and Business Development said: “In addition to our innovative solutions for the installation of increasingly large wind turbines, we see many opportunities to improve efficiency, and thus lowering costs, for maintenance. With this new crane type we believe to have designed a cost-effective means to perform maintenance on existing and future wind turbines”.

The ideal maintenance jack-up has a small deck, is cost-effective and quick to mobilize, has a limited lifting capacity (up to 500-600mt) and a lifting height of over 160m. The Huisman ‘Foldable Offshore Crane’ is well suited for these types of jack-ups as it is capable of exchanging WTG components to around 160m above deck level from a small jack-up (JU vessel length of +/-70 m). The boom of the crane is foldable which results in a very small footprint when in storage position. In addition, the folding mechanism leads to a much lighter crane compared to conventional cranes, which positively influences integration, and simplifies inspection and maintenance as the lifting hooks are safely stored inboard. By slightly tilting the knuckle, extra boom clearance is created. This simplifies lifting of large loads and reduces the required boom length to reach above the middle of a nacelle. Furthermore, the crane can be retrofitted on existing jack-ups which is especially useful for operators in need of more hook height in answer to the growing demands of the offshore wind industry.

‘Aanslag op eigenaar windmolens Assen’

Het Dagblad van het Noorden meldt dat op eigenaar Robert Jans van windmolen bouwer K-Wind in Assen mogelijk een aanslag is gepleegd door tegenstanders van een windpark bij Coevorden.

Bij het woonhuis van Jans is begin april een geparkeerde auto uitgebrand. Jans vermoedt dat het een poging is geweest om zijn woning in brand te steken. De politie heeft nog geen zicht op het motief, maar laat wel weten dat ‘met grote waarschijnlijkheid sprake is geweest van brandstichting.’

Jans maakte bekend dat hij meteen na de brand een sms’je ontvangen heeft. Hierin werd gedreigd dat zijn dierbaren de volgende keer aan de beurt zijn als hij niet stopt met zijn plannen in Coevorden.

De brandweer wist te voorkomen dat de vlammen oversloegen naar de woning. Onderzoek in de buurt door de politie heeft nog niets opgeleverd.
Het plan van K-Wind is de bouw van 2 turbines van 3 megawattpiek met een tiphoogte van maximaal 150 meter, op het Leeuwerikenveld net buiten het Europark in Coevorden. Er is verzet van bewoners.

Vattenfall’s largest land-based wind farm supplies electricity

Vattenfall's largest land-based wind farm, Pen y Cymoedd in South Wales, UK, is now supplying electricity at full capacity. Pen y Cymoedd has a total of 76 wind power turbines and will generate approximately 700 GWh annually, which corresponds to the household electricity consumption of 188,000* British homes.

Pen y Cymoedd, whose construction began in autumn 2015, is Vattenfall's largest wind farm on land, and an important step in the ambition to generate even more renewable electricity and to power climate smarter living. In 2016 Vattenfall decided on a plan to invest a total of EUR 5 billion in wind power generation over the next five years.

A storage plant for generated electricity will also be built at Pen y Cymoedd. In March, Vattenfall and the BMW Group signed an agreement for the supply of up to 1,000 lithium-ion batteries this year. The batteries, which have a capacity of 33 kilowatt hours (kWh) each, are equipped with a BMW-owned battery control system and are also used by the car manufacturer in their BMW i3.

"Energy storage and grid stability are the most important issues in the new energy world," according to Gunnar Groebler, Head of Vattenfall Wind. "We want to use the plants where we generate renewable energy from renewable energy sources to drive the transition to a new energy system, and to facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources in energy systems with storage capabilities. The decoupling of generation from consumption and the coupling of different consumption sectors is the focus of our work."

*Based on an average annual UK household consumption of 4,000 kW

Hoe meer windmolens, hoe meer CO2 uitstoot.

Stijging CO2-uitstoot

De totale CO2-uitstoot in Nederland steeg in 2016 met 2,7 procent. Volgens WISE is dat te verklaren omdat de grote stroomleveranciers simpelweg meer stroom zijn gaan leveren.
