Weer afname mondiale staalproductie

Na maanden van stijging.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De mondiale staalproductie is na de stijgingen in juli en augustus in september weer gedaald. Dit bleek dinsdag uit cijfers van brancheorganisatie World Steel Association.

In totaal vervaardigden de 63 staalproducerende landen vorige maand 149,3 miljoen ton staal, een afname van 1,5 procent op jaarbasis. In augustus steeg de productie nog met 2,2 procent en juli steeg de productie zelfs met meer dan 6 procent.

In China, wereldwijd met afstand de grootste fabrikant van staal, daalde de productie in september met 5,6 procent. Maar in de VS steeg de productie met bijna 3 procent tot 6,7 miljoen ton.

In Duitsland steeg de productie afgelopen maand ook, met 2,9 procent, maar in de hele Europese Unie was er een daling van 1,1 procent.

De cijfers van Nucor liegen er niet om, zie ook zijn ranking vorige tov andere staal bedrijve.
Let wel, Nucor is vwb grondstoffen minder afhankelijk van erts en meer van HBI en schrot.

Nucor reports decreased net earnings in Q3

Nucor Corporation announced consolidated net earnings $1.14 billion for the third quarter of 2023, compared to consolidated net earnings of $1.46 billion for the second quarter of 2023 and $1.69 billion for the third quarter of 2022.

Nucor's consolidated net sales decreased 8 percent to $8.78 billion in the third quarter of 2023 compared with $9.52 billion in the second quarter of 2023 and decreased 16 percent compared with $10.50 billion in the third quarter of 2022.

In a press release, the company said average sales price per ton in the third quarter of 2023 decreased 3 percent compared with the second quarter of 2023 and decreased 14 percent compared with the third quarter of 2022.

A total of 6,240,000 tons were shipped to outside customers in the third quarter of 2023, a 5 percent decrease from the second quarter of 2023 and a 3 percent decrease from the third quarter of 2022, Nucor said. Total steel mill shipments in the third quarter of 2023 decreased 4 percent as compared to the second quarter of 2023 and decreased 2 percent as compared to the third quarter of 2022.

Steel mill shipments to internal customers represented 20 percent of total steel mill shipments in the third quarter of 2023 and the second quarter of 2023, compared with 22 percent in the third quarter of 2022, Nucor said. Downstream steel product shipments to outside customers in the third quarter of 2023 decreased 4 percent from the second quarter of 2023 and decreased 12 percent from the third quarter of 2022.

Overall operating rates at the company's steel mills decreased to 77 percent in the third quarter of 2023 as compared to 84 percent in the second quarter of 2023 and 77 percent in the third quarter of 2022.

As for an outlook, the company said it expects earnings in the fourth quarter of 2023 to decrease compared to the third quarter of 2023 due primarily to lower pricing across all three operating segments, and, to a lesser extent, decreased volumes.

In the steel mills segment, Nucor expects the decrease in realized pricing to be most pronounced at its sheet mills. In the steel products segment, the company expects decreased earnings due to moderating average selling prices at most of the product groups within the steel products segment and lower volumes. Earnings for the raw materials segment are expected to decrease in the fourth quarter of 2023 as compared to the third quarter of 2023 due to lower pricing for raw materials and planned outages at Nucor’s DRI facilities.

POSCO’s operating profit falls in Q3 due lower sales prices

South Korean steelmaker Pohang Iron and Steel Co. (POSCO) has announced its consolidated financial results for the third quarter this year.

The company reported an operating profit of KRW 1.19 trillion ($886.05 million) in the given quarter, down by 9.8 percent compared to the second quarter, due to a decline in sales prices. In the third quarter, POSCO’s revenue decreased by 10.3 percent quarter on quarter to KRW 18.96 trillion ($14.03 billion), while its net profit amounted to KRW 550 billion ($407.47 million), decreasing by 7.1 percent compared to the previous quarter.

In the third quarter this year, POSCO produced 9.31 million mt of crude steel, rising by 5.2 percent both quarter on quarter and year on year, while its finished steel sales decreased by 0.6 percent compared to the previous quarter and were up by five percent year on year to 8.3 million mt.

Major Chinese steelmaker Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd (Baosteel), a listed subsidiary of the state-owned China Baowu Group, has issued its financial report for the first nine months this year, stating that its operating revenue amounted to RMB 255.017 billion ($35.5 billion) in the given period, down 8.35 percent year on year, while its net profit came to RMB 8.35 billion ($1.2 billion), down 11.76 percent year on year.

In the given period, Baosteel produced 37.026 million mt of pig iron and 39.816 million mt of crude steel, up 6.2 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively, while it sold 38.968 million mt of finished steel, rising by 4.9 percent, all year on year.

In the July-September period, Baosteel registered an operating revenue of RMB 85.162 billion ($11.9 billion), down 9.97 percent year on year, while it posted a net profit of RMB 3.798 billion ($0.53 billion) in the same period, up 127.1 percent year on year. In the given period, Baosteel produced 12.755 million mt of pig iron and 13.873 million mt of crude steel, up 8.4 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively, while it sold 13.405 million mt of finished steel, rising by 2.7 percent, all year on year.

De analisten van Deutsche Bank hebben zich woensdag opnieuw positief uitgelaten over Arcelor Mittal. Deutsche Bank herhaalde het advies kopen voor de aandelen van Arcelor Mittal.

Ook het koersdoel van 33,00 EUR werd door de analisten herhaald. Dat betekent dat de analisten verwachten dat de aandelen van Arcelor Mittal met 58% kunnen stijgen vanaf de huidige koers van 20,94 EUR.
