Nikkei op hoogste niveau sinds december

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse effectenbeurs is maandag met een stevige winst aan de nieuwe handelsweek begonnen. De stemming werd gesteund door optimisme over het naderende handelsakkoord tussen de Verenigde Staten en China en een goede start van het cijferseizoen op Wall Street. Een sterker dan verwachte Chinese export in maart en een daling van de Japanse yen hielpen de koersen eveneens vooruit.

De hoofdindex in Tokio, de Nikkei 225, sloot 1,4 procent hoger op 22.169,11 punten en bereikte daarmee het hoogste niveau sinds begin december. De automakers Toyota, Honda en Nissan, die veel voertuigen verkopen in het buitenland, profiteerden van de goedkopere yen en stegen tot 1,1 procent.

Concurrent Suzuki zakte 2,3 procent. Het bedrijf neemt een flinke last vanwege het terugroepen van bijna 2 miljoen voertuigen door onnauwkeurige inspecties. Japan Display won 1,3 procent. Een Chinees-Taiwanese groep neemt de controle over bij de geplaagde Japanse maker van beeldschermen.

De Chinese beurzen gingen eveneens vooruit dankzij de positieve handelsdata uit het land van afgelopen vrijdag. Ook werd uitgekeken naar het groeicijfer van de Chinese economie, dat later in de week bekend wordt gemaakt. De hoofdgraadmeter in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,7 procent in de plus en de Hang Seng-index in Hongkong kreeg er 0,1 procent bij. De Kospi in Seoul klom 0,4 procent en de All Ordinaries in Sydney bleef achter met een verlies van 0,1 procent.

Hitachi Zosen and Eco Power unveil offshore wind venture in Japan

Hitachi Zosen Corporation and the Tokyo-based Eco Power Co Ltd have established a joint venture company to develop an offshore wind project off the Aomori Prefecture in Japan. The Nishikita offshore wind farm will comprise up to 125 wind turbines and have a capacity of 500MW. The turbines will have an individual capacity of between 4MW and 9.5MW. The wind farm is expected to be commissioned after 2025

The Aomori Nishikita Offshore Wind Power special purpose company is a 50-50 partnership between Hitachi Zosen and Eco Power.

Eco Power owns and operates over 160 wind turbines across some 20 onshore wind farms in Japan with a combined capacity of around 220MW.

Japanse beurs sluit licht hoger

TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan is dinsdag licht hoger geëindigd. Beleggers bleven optimistisch na de stevige koerswinsten een dag eerder. Vooral de Japanse telecombedrijven waren in trek, nadat marktleider NTT Docomo de prijzen minder sterk verlaagde dan verwacht. Verder werd uitgekeken naar de publicatie van de Chinese economische groeicijfers, die woensdag naar buiten komen.

De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio ging met een winst van 0,2 procent de dag uit op 22.221,66 punten. De Japanse hoofdindex bereikte daarmee het hoogste niveau in vier maanden. Telecomaanbieder NTT Docomo steeg 3,6 procent en concurrenten SoftBank en KDDI klommen tot 5,9 procent. De kans op een prijzenoorlog in de telecomsector is afgenomen doordat NTT Docomo de tarieven minder sterk terugschroefde dan gevreesd.

De andere Aziatische beurzen lieten eveneens winsten zien. De beurs in Shanghai kreeg er tussentijds 1,4 procent bij en naderde het hoogste niveau in zes maanden tijd. De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong noteerde 0,7 procent in de plus en de All Ordinaries in Sydney steeg 0,3 procent.

De Kospi in Seoul dikte 0,2 procent aan. Asiana Airlines maakte een koerssprong van bijna 17 procent. Grootaandeelhouder Kumho Industrial verkoopt zijn gehele belang in de door schulden geplaagde luchtvaartmaatschappij om het Zuid-Koreaanse bedrijf te redden.

Pacifico Energy starts construction of 102 MW solar power plant in Hyogo Prefecture in Japan

Pacifico Energy KK announced the commencement of construction of a 102.144 MW (DC) solar power generation plant in Ako, Hyogo Prefecture. The Ako plant will be constructed on the site of a golf course in Ako-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Operations are expected to start in Spring of 2021. Once commissioned, the plant will generate approximately 125 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, contributing to an annual reduction of approximately 5 tons of CO2 emissions. Kansai Electric Power Co Inc will purchase all electricity generated by the plant for 20 years at 24 yen per kilowatt hour, pursuant to the Act on Special Measures Concerning Procurement of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources by Electric Utilities.

MUFG Bank Ltd arranged the lending syndicate, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co Ltd acted as financial advisor to Pacifico Energy Ako GK and Baker McKenzie acted as legal counsel to Pacifico Energy Ako GK on this transaction.

Pacifico Energy has now commenced construction on eleven (11) solar power plants throughout Japan (including the Ako plant) totaling 930 MW(DC), four (4) of which (totaling 227 MW(DC)) have been completed and are now in commercial operation.

ABB and Porsche will jointly develop next generation electric vehicle chargers in Japan

ABB has entered into an agreement to deliver its market-leading electric vehicle infrastructure for Porsche Japan’s EVs, including Taycan, the automaker’s first fully electric car, set to enter the Japanese market in 2020. Under the terms, Porsche Japan will install ABB’s high-power chargers at Porsche Centers and public facilities across the country, creating a network of fast chargers for its electric vehicles. The first installation is set to go live in mid-2020. The alliance will boost Japan’s push for the wider adoption of e-mobility. ABB and Porsche Japan will join forces to develop the next generation of chargers that support power levels exceeding 150 kW and compatible with the CHAdeMO fast charging standard.

The Porsche Taycan is set to enter the Japanese market in 2020. With a maximum output of 600PS (440kW), the sports sedan can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and has a maximum cruising distance of 500km or more (REACH NEDC compliance). Demand for Porsche’s first ever electric car has been overwhelming, with more than 20,000 customers across the world expressing interest as of March 2019. Following its launch, Porsche will go into production in 2020 with its crossover inspired estate version, the EV Cross Turismo.

The Japanese government has set an ambitious goal to sell only new electric or hybrid vehicles by 2050. The move comes as the country works to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions that are largely responsible for global warming.

ABB has sold more than 10,500 DC high-speed chargers in 73 countries.

Japanse export in maart gedaald

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Japanse export is in maart van dit jaar met 2,4 procent op jaarbasis afgenomen. Dit maakte de Japanse douane woensdag bekend.

Vooraf werd rekening gehouden met een afname met 2,7 procent.

De import steeg op jaarbasis met 1,1 procent.

Met deze twee data kwam het handelstekort uit op 528,5 miljard yen.

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse aandelenbeurs is woensdag licht hoger gesloten. Beleggers trokken zich op aan een sterker dan verwachte groei van de Chinese economie en de hoop op positieve uitkomsten van de handelsgesprekken tussen Japan en de Verenigde Staten. Een nieuwe krimp van de Japanse export in maart hield de winst beperkt. De andere Aziatische beursgraadmeters lieten een gemengd beeld zien.

De Nikkei-index in Tokio eindigde 0,3 procent in de plus op 22.277,97 punten. De Japanse makers van bouwmachines Komatsu en Hitachi Construction profiteerden van de sterke gegevens uit China en stegen 1,9 procent en 1,3 procent. Automakers waren eveneens in trek dankzij de hoop dat Japan en de VS goede vooruitgang boeken met de handelsonderhandelingen en dat hogere Amerikaanse importtarieven op Japanse auto's kunnen worden vermeden. Honda, Toyota en Mazda klommen tot 2,5 procent.

SoftBank, een zwaargewicht in de Nikkei, daalde daarentegen 1,5 procent. Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie heeft zijn zorgen geuit over de structuur van de voorgestelde fusie tussen T-Mobile US en Sprint, de Amerikaanse tak van SoftBank.

De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,4 procent hoger. De Chinese economie groeide in het eerste kwartaal met 6,4 procent, terwijl economen hadden gerekend op een groei van 6,3 procent. Ook de fabrieksproductie en de winkelverkopen namen in maart sterker toe dan voorzien. De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong won 0,1 procent en de All Ordinaries in Sydney verloor 0,4 procent. De Kospi in Seoul zakte 0,1 procent.

Japanse beurs doet stap terug

TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan deed donderdag een stap terug. Beleggers namen wat winst na de recente sterke opmars die de Japanse hoofdindex naar het hoogste niveau in meer dan vier maanden stuurde. Een bericht dat het Japanse technologieconcern Canon zijn winstverwachting gaat verlagen drukte eveneens op het beurssentiment.

De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio sloot uiteindelijk 0,8 procent lager op 22.090,12 punten. Canon zakte 4 procent. Het bedrijf dat vooral bekend is van zijn camera's en printers zal volgens zakenkrant Nikkei de winstverwachting voor het lopende boekjaar verlagen. Concurrent Olympus verloor 2,5 procent. De Japanse automakers waren opnieuw in trek door de hoop op een handelsovereenkomst tussen Japan en de Verenigde Staten. Toyota steeg 0,3 procent en Honda kreeg er 1,4 procent bij.

In Mumbai zag Jet Airways bijna 27 procent aan beurswaarde verdampen. De Indiase luchtvaartmaatschappij heeft alle vluchten geschrapt. Dat gebeurde nadat het niet gelukt was om noodkrediet los te krijgen. De noodlijdende partner van Air France-KLM geeft aan zo snel mogelijk weer te willen vliegen.

China

De andere Aziatische beurzen lieten eveneens verliezen zien. De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,2 procent in de min en de Kospi in Seoul leverde 1,4 procent in. Het Zuid-Koreaanse technologieconcern Samsung zakte 3 procent na berichten over het breken van enkele testmodellen van de dure opvouwbare smartphone Galaxy Fold van het bedrijf.

De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong daalde 0,5 procent voorafgaand aan het lange paasweekend. In Sydney, waar de beurs vrijdag en maandag ook dicht blijft, ging de All Ordinaries 0,1 procent omlaag. De financiële markten in China, Japan en Zuid-Korea zijn op Goede Vrijdag en tweede paasdag wel open.

Oliebedrijven in trek op Japanse beurs

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse aandelenbeurs is dinsdag licht hoger gesloten. De oliebedrijven waren in trek dankzij de flinke opvering van de olieprijzen een dag eerder. Beleggers namen verder wat winst in een aantal sterk gestegen aandelen en keken uit naar de stroom aan kwartaalcijfers die de komende dagen naar buiten komt.

De hoofdindex in Tokio, de Nikkei 225, eindigde 0,2 procent in de plus op 22.259,74 punten. De oliebedrijven Inpex en Japan Petroleum Exploration stegen 2,8 en 1,2 procent. De olieprijzen bereikten bijna het hoogste niveau van dit jaar na het nieuws dat de Amerikaanse regering bepaalde olie-ontheffingen van de sancties met Iran niet wil verlengen.

De eigenaar van kledingketen Uniqlo, Fast Retailing, daalde 1,8 procent door winstnemingen. Het aandeel, dat zwaar weegt in de Nikkei, bereikte maandag nog een recordniveau. De Japanse maker van industriële apparatuur Yaskawa Electric, die eerder de hoogste koers sinds juni 2018 aantikte, verloor 3 procent.

China

De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,2 procent hoger na de forse verliesbeurt een dag eerder. In Hongkong, waar beleggers terugkeerden na een lang paasweekend, klom de Hang Seng-index 0,2 procent. In Sydney, waar de beurs afgelopen vrijdag en maandag ook dicht was, steeg de All Ordinaries 1 procent onder aanvoering van de olieproducenten.

De Kospi in Seoul won 0,2 procent. Samsung zakte 0,4 procent. Het Zuid-Koreaanse technologieconcern stelt de lancering van zijn nieuwe Galaxy Fold-smartphone vanwege problemen met het opvouwbare scherm. De smartphone met een prijskaartje van bijna 2000 dollar zou eigenlijk volgende week vrijdag op de Amerikaanse markt worden uitgebracht.

Tokyo Steel to keep prices steady in May for fifth month

Reuters reported that Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co Ltd, Japan’s top electric-arc furnace steelmaker, said that it would keep its steel product prices steady in May due to delays in some construction projects and higher local inventories. This is the fifth straight month the company kept prices unchanged for all of its steel products, including its main H-shaped beams. For May, prices of steel bars, including rebar, will remain at JPY 69,000 (USD 617) a tonne, while H-shaped beams will also stay at JPY 89,000 a tonne.

Tokyo Steel MD Mr Kiyoshi Imamura told reporters that “Local flow of steel products have slowed as a shortage of some materials such as bolts caused delays in some construction projects, while higher imports also helped boost local steel inventories. But I expect bolts shortage to ease and construction activities will pick up by end-June as domestic demand is fairly strong due to redevelopment projects in Tokyo metropolitan area and construction of new hotels in Okinawa, Kyushu and Hokkaido to meet rising foreign tourists.”

Honda recalls 3,669 units of Accord to fix faulty airbags

First Post reported that Honda said it is recalling 3,669 units of its Accord sedan in India as part of a global exercise to rectify faulty airbags. The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned arm Honda Cars India Ltd is voluntarily recalling the units manufactured between 2003-2006 to fix faulty front airbag inflators supplied by Takata Corp. The replacement will be carried out free of cost at Honda dealerships across India.

As part of the Takata airbag inflator recalls which have impacted several car makers globally, the company said it continues to urge owners of vehicles affected by the recall to get their vehicles repaired at authorised dealers as soon as possible.

It said that “HCIL reiterates the importance of replacing the affected Takata front airbag inflators urgently as they may deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated.”

It added that the airbag inflator casing might rupture which may result in injury or safety risk to the vehicle occupants.

Toyota establishes joint research institute with China's Tsinghua University

Toyota Motor Corporation and Tsinghua University announced that they have agreed to establish the Tsinghua Toyota Joint Research Institute (Joint Research Institute) on April 21. Through the Joint Research Institute, the two plan to conduct various research together over the next five years. By establishing the Joint Research Institute, Toyota and Tsinghua University sees an opportunity to further contribute to the development of China and become a mobility company capable of meeting the needs of Chinese consumers through the development and popularization of vehicles equipped with new technology. By equipping new technology, the aim is to excel in solving environmental problems and in reducing traffic accidents.

Toyota and Tsinghua University have engaged in research projects together since 1998, conducting technology courses and pursuing other related activities. The establishment of the Joint Research Institute will enable the two to cooperate in research not only related to cars for Chinese consumers, but also in research related to active utilization of hydrogen energy that can help solve China's energy problems and other certain social issues.

Toyota's policy regarding initiatives leading to social development is based on openness, and, to promote the popularization of electrified vehicles, Toyota has recently decided to provide licenses royalty-free on patents it holds related to vehicle electrification.

On the establishment of the Joint Research Institute, Toyota President Akio Toyoda commented that "Everything started with my discussions with Premier Li Keqiang last May, leading to the establishment of the Joint Research Institute. I am delighted to have an opportunity to contribute to the development of China."

In addition, in November 2018, at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Toyota proposed new mobility concepts aiming to support peoples' lives through leveraging electrification, intelligence, and informatization, such as in the form of the e-Palette, the next-generation battery electric vehicle specially designed for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) services and products.

SoftBank investeert in WireCard

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Het Japanse SoftBank investeert 900 miljoen euro in WireCard door converteerbare obligaties van het fintechbedrijf te kopen. Dit meldde WireCard dinsdag in een persbericht.

Het betreft een exclusieve emissie voor SoftBank van obligaties met een looptijd van vijf jaar, die converteerbaar zijn naar ruim 6,9 miljoen gewone aandelen WireCard. Dit komt overeen met een belang van circa 5,6 procent van de gewone aandelen.

De emissie zal ter goedkeuring worden voorgelegd aan de aandeelhouders van WirdeCard op 18 juni 2019.

Ook tekenden de twee partijen een intentieverklaring voor een strategische samenwerking op het vlak van digitale betaaloplossingen.

Nissan zet mes in winstverwachting

YOKOHAMA (AFN/RTR) - Autofabrikant Nissan heeft zijn tweede winstwaarschuwing in enkele maanden afgegeven. Het Japanse bedrijf haalde ongeveer een kwart van het verwachte resultaat af vanwege de tegenvallende autoverkopen in het vierde kwartaal. Ook noemt Nissan ,,recente bedrijfsmatige ontwikkelingen'' die de verkopen negatief beïnvloedden. Nissan staat sinds november in de schijnwerpers na de arrestatie van topman Carlos Ghosn op verdenking van fraude.

De autobouwer denkt nu dat de winst voor zijn in maart geëindigde gebroken boekjaar uitkomt op 319 miljard yen. Dat is omgerekend ongeveer 2,5 miljard euro. Eerder ging de automaker nog uit van een winst van 410 miljard yen.

In februari ging de verwachte nettowinst al van 500 miljard yen naar 410 miljard yen. Dat alarm kwam nadat de winst in de eerste negen maanden van het boekjaar met 45 procent bleek te zijn gezakt. Toen gaf Nissan nog hogere materiaalkosten en negatieve wisselkoerseffecten als reden.

Nikkei eindigt met klein verlies

TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan is woensdag met een klein verlies geëindigd. Beleggers bleven voorzichtig in afwachting van de vele bedrijfsresultaten die aan het einde van de week naar buiten komen. Ook werd er weinig gehandeld voorafgaand aan de lange vakantieperiode in verband met de kroning van de nieuwe Japanse keizer, die aankomend weekend begint. De nieuwe recordstanden op Wall Street hielden de verliezen beperkt.

De Nikkei-index in Tokio sloot 0,3 procent in de min op 22.200 punten. Nissan zakte 4 procent, in aanloop naar een handelsbericht. Nidec klom 0,8 procent. De maker van elektrische motoren verwacht dat de nettowinst in het jaar dat loopt tot en met maart 2020 flink zal stijgen.

Hitachi daalde 1,4 procent. De Japanse industriële groep neemt de Amerikaanse maker van productie- en logistieke systemen JR Automation Technologies over voor 1,43 miljard dollar. SoftBank won 0,4 procent. Het Japanse conglomeraat investeert ongeveer 900 miljoen euro in het Duitse fintechbedrijf Wirecard.

De Chinese beurzen gingen omlaag. De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds vlak en de Hang Seng-index in Hongkong leverde 0,4 procent in. De Kospi in Seoul daalde 0,9 procent. In Sydney zette de All Ordinaries de opmars voort onder aanvoering van de olieproducenten en klom 0,9 procent. De Australische hoofdindex bereikte daarmee het hoogste niveau in meer dan tien jaar.

Opnieuw winstwaarschuwing Nissan

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Nissan heeft opnieuw een winstwaarschuwing afgegeven terwijl het concern puin ruimt na de schandalen rond voormalig bestuursvoorzitter Carlos Ghosn. Dit werd woensdag bekend.

In februari waarschuwde het Japanse autoconcern ook al voor een lagere operationele winst, toen van 450 miljard Japanse yen. Die verwachting werd woensdag bijgesteld tot 318 miljard yen, of 2,8 miljard Amerikaanse dollar. De verwachte nettowinst is bijgesteld van 410 miljard naar 319 miljard yen, terwijl de omzetverwachting fractioneel is verlaagd tot 11.574 miljard yen.

De operationele marge komt voor het boekjaar 2018, dat eindigde op 31 maart, uit op 2,7 procent, waar Nissan in februari nog uitging van 3,9 procent.

De volledige jaarcijfers worden op 14 mei bekendgemaakt.

De strubbelingen bij het Japanse autoconcern blijken een uitdaging voor CEO Hiroto Saiwaka. De winstgevendheid van Nissan in met name de Verenigde Staten liep de afgelopen jaren terug, vooral omdat Ghosn volgens Nissan veel te agressieve maatregelen nam om marktaandeel te winnen. Zo was het concern bijvoorbeeld veel te scheutig met financiële voordelen voor consumenten die een Nissan voertuig wilden kopen.

Saiwaka gaf eerder aan de fouten die Ghosn heeft gemaakt, recht te willen zetten. Ghosn zelf zit in Japan in de cel, in afwachting van een besluit of hij opnieuw op borgtocht vrij komt. De voormalig topman van Nissan wordt beschuldigd van financiële wanpraktijken maar ontkent die aantijgingen.

Infineon is outgrowing all other leading suppliers of automotive semiconductors in Japan

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, Infineon Technologies AG has increased its automotive business in Japan by almost 25% in 2018. It thus grew faster than any other of the top ten automotive semiconductor suppliers in the country. Japan accounts for approximately 10% of global car production. A key pillar to Infineon’s success is its quality leadership strategy. Last Friday, the biggest Japanese car manufacturer Toyota once again honored Infineon for five years of zero defect deliveries to its Hirose plant.

Mr Peter Schiefer, President of the Automotive Division at Infineon, said “Quality requirements are particularly high among Japanese car manufacturers. Receiving an award for half a decade of immaculate shipments makes us very proud. Our strong commitment to zero defects is one of the reasons why we have continuously outgrown the automotive semiconductor market in Japan since 2010.” The data from Strategy Analytics shows that Infineon has far more than doubled its respective market share since the beginning of the decade.”

Once a year, Toyota’s Hirose plant honors suppliers for their high quality. Infineon delivers CAN transceivers to the plant – devices that enable various electronic control units in cars to exchange data. For the second time in a row, Infineon has received the most prestigious prize: the Honor Quality Award, which is presented only to suppliers with a flawless quality record for four consecutive years.

In recent years, Infineon also received awards from other automotive global players such as Hyundai-Kia, Bosch, UAES, Denso, and Mitsuba. In the 2018 fiscal year, Infineon shipped more than seven billion automotive parts worldwide – not even 0.00001% of them were object of a customer complaint.

Honda launches new CBR650R

Country’s second largest two-wheeler maker, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has launched its new sports middleweight model CBR650R at a price of INR 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom PAN India). The new CBR650R comes with a powerful 649cc liquid cooled four-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve engine.

Mr YS Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, HMSI said that “It was just last week that we announced the establishment of new premium big bike business vertical – the Honda BigWing in India. CBR650R further strengthens the model line up to be sold & serviced under Honda BigWing. Delivering a sporty & powerful performance with Honda’s Racing pedigree, the all new CBR650R is set to excite middleweight biking enthusiasts.”

The bike is equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control which maintains rear wheel traction and can be switched off should the rider choose to.

Other features include adjustable 41 mm Showa Separate Fork Function USD forks which offer superior suspension response, dual channel ABS, LED lighting with a narrow dual headlamp among others.

Mr Ghosn lawyer requests bail after ex-Nissan chairman indicted for 4th time

Reuters reported that Japanese prosecutors indicted Carlos Ghosn on Monday on another charge of aggravated breach of trust, the fourth charge against the former Nissan Motor Co Ltd chairman, which his lawyers met immediately with a bail request. The charge came on the day Ghosn's latest detention period was set to expire. Ghosn had been out on bail when authorities arrested him for a fourth time on April 4 on suspicion he enriched himself at a cost of USD 5 million to the automaker.

An official from the prosecutor's office said at a briefing said that "We are confident that we have the evidence to successfully prosecute all four cases.”

Mr Ghosn has denied all four of his charges, which include understating his income, and said he is the victim of a boardroom coup. He has accused former colleagues of "backstabbing", describing them as selfish rivals bent on derailing a closer alliance between Nissan and its top shareholder, France's Renault SA.
