Je kunt er van uit gaan dat je in principe niks hebt, en dat er misschien een enkel middel, met imho remdesivir voorop, maar eventueel ook kaletra, een effect zal hebben. Dat zal geen groot effect zijn, dan hadden ze het allang aangetoond. Overigens hebben we tegen het traditionele influenza virus ook bijzonder weinig.
Waarschijnlijk wordt het combineren zoals ze bij hiv doen. (en ondertussen hopen op een vacccin natuurlijk). Met dien verstande dat hiv wel een heel ander virus is, maar bon.
Humaan immunodeficiëntievirus (HIV) is een RNA-virus dat zich vermenigvuldigt in de CD4-positieve macrofagen en T-helper-lymfocyten van het immuunsysteem van de mens. Hiervoor maakt het virus o.a. gebruik van virale enzymen, zoals reverse-transcriptase (voor de omzetting van viraal RNA naar viraal DNA), integrase (voor de insertie van viraal DNA in het genoom van de gastheercel) en protease (voor de omzetting van viraal mRNA naar viraal eiwit). Deze verschillende stappen vormen aangrijpingspunten van diverse geneesmiddelgroepen, zoals de
CCR5-antagonisten, HIV-nucleoside-reverse-transcriptaseremmers, HIV-non-nucleoside-reverse-transcriptaseremmers (NNRTI's), HIV-integraseremmers (INSTI's) en HIV-proteaseremmers (PI's). Bij de virusvermenigvuldiging ontstaan frequent mutaties. Hierdoor worden virussen op den duur resistent tegen een toegepaste behandeling. Door combinatie van antiretrovirale middelen uit verschillende groepen met verschillende werkingsmechanismen en niet-overlappende resistentieprofielen wordt het HIV in meerdere fasen van de virale levenscyclus bestreden. Dit resulteert doorgaans in een hoge virologische respons.
