‘China blijft productie zonnepanelen in handen, overaanbod belemmert uitbreidingen’

Ondanks de stimulering van lokale productie op overzeese markten zal China de wereldwijde productieketen voor zonne-energie blijven domineren en zal de kloof op het gebied van technologie en kosten enkel vergroten.

Na in 2023 meer dan 130 miljard Amerikaanse dollar te hebben geïnvesteerd in de zonne-energiesector zal China van 2023 tot 2026 meer dan 80 procent van de wereldwijde productiecapaciteit voor polysilicium, wafers, zonnecellen en zonnepanelen in handen houden. Dat concluderen onderzoekers van Wood Mackenzie in het nieuwe rapport ‘How will China's expansion affect global solar module supply chains?’.

‘Zonnepanelen verdienen zichzelf nog steeds terug’

Ook zonder salderingsregeling blijft het interessant om te investeren in zonnepanelen. Op dit moment verdienen zonnepanelen zichzelf nog binnen 7 jaar terug. Dat stelt installateurskoepel Techniek Nederland.

Na een geleidelijke afbouw van de salderingsregeling wordt de terugverdientijd van een zonnepaneelinstallatie volgens Techniek Nederland 1 tot 2 jaar langer, maar gezien de lange levensduur van zonnepanelen is er ruim voldoende tijd over om te profiteren van de lagere energierekening.

Twentse onderzoekers verbeteren efficiëntie zonnecellen met zwavel

Het is onderzoekers van Universiteit Twente gelukt de geleiding van koperjodide (CuI) te verbeteren terwijl het 75 procent van zijn transparantie behoudt. De doorbraak is relevant voor touchscreens en zonnecellen.

Transparante geleiders worden gebruikt voor tal van apparaten, waaronder touchscreens en zonnecellen.

Eerste van 74.000 zonnepanelen zonnepark Sunspace geplaatst

Stichting Energieneutraal Noordelijk Flevoland (SENF) en energie- en grondstoffenbedrijf HVC hebben het eerste van 74.000 zonnepanelen van zonnepark Sunspace geplaatst. De bouw moet begin 2024 klaar zijn.

Afgelopen mei werd gestart met het bouwklaar maken van het 250.000 vierkante meter grote terrein. Daarna werden 12.000 funderingspalen geslagen en de onderconstructie opgebouwd.

Nieuw wereldrecord LONGi voor perovskiet tandemzonnecel van 33,9 procent

De Chinese fabrikant LONGi heeft een nieuw wereldrecord gevestigd voor kristallijn silicium-perovskiet tandemzonnecellen met een rendement van 33,9 procent.

Het vorige wereldrecord stond op 33,7 procent en werd in mei van dit jaar gevestigd door de King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST).

'Consument flink goedkoper uit bij aanschaf van zonnepanelen’

UTRECHT (ANP) - Doordat de prijs van zonnepanelen het afgelopen jaar flink is gedaald, kan de aanschaf inmiddels in zes jaar worden terugverdiend. Dat meldt Milieu Centraal op basis van berekeningen met cijfers van de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO).

Volgens de voorlichtingsorganisatie kost een set van tien panelen inclusief installatie en omvormer nu nog 5000 euro; dat was begin dit jaar 7500 euro.

Een "forse" daling, noemt Milieu Centraal dat verschil. Door die lagere prijs is de terugverdientijd van zonnepanelen twee jaar korter geworden, volgens de berekeningen van de organisatie. Daarbij heeft Milieu Centraal rekening gehouden met het afbouwen van de salderingsregeling vanaf 2025. Met die regeling kunnen huishoudens met zonnepanelen nu nog de stroom die ze terugleveren aan het net wegstrepen tegen stroom die ze op andere momenten afnemen.

Vooral Nederlander met eigen huis profiteert van zonnepanelen: ‘Vergroot verschil tussen rijk en arm’

Nederlanders denken met hun portemonnee. Want hoewel we in 2023 wat sceptischer zijn geworden over de noodzaak van klimaatbeleid, zijn we juist meer gaan investeren. Want dat scheelt geld. Honderdduizenden mensen kozen voor zonnepanelen. Ook douchen veel Nederlanders korter dan voorheen.

In onderzoek van I&O Research onder 2475 Nederlanders geven dubbel zo veel respondenten als vier jaar geleden aan zonnepanelen op het dak te hebben. Ook besparen Nederlanders - vermoedelijk vanwege de hoge prijzen - meer energie. Zo douchen ze minder vaak en korter: gemiddeld 31 minuten per week, 5 minuten minder dan in 2019.

Minister: afbouw salderingsregeling neemt reden voor extra heffing energiebedrijven weg

Minister Jetten verwacht dat de afbouw van de salderingsregeling ertoe leidt dat energiebedrijven zoals Vandebron zullen stoppen met een extra heffing voor eigenaren van zonnepanelen.
Dat meldt de minister voor Klimaat en Energie naar aanleiding van vragen van de Eerste Kamer over zijn wetsvoorstel om het salderen af te bouwen. Hij stelt het jammer te vinden dat sommige energieleveranciers, zoals Vandebron, vooruitlopen op de uitkomst van het wetgevingsproces door eigenstandig een aparte kostenpost in te voeren voor mensen met zonnepanelen.

In 1 keer goed regelen
Daarbij onderschrijft Jetten wel dat energiebedrijven extra kosten hebben door klanten met zonnepanelen. ‘Zo zijn leveranciers verplicht om teruggeleverde elektriciteit af te nemen op momenten dat dit minder waard is en dit te salderen met geleverde elektriciteit op duurdere momenten. Daarnaast hebben leveranciers te maken met stijgende onbalanskosten door hun klanten met zonnepanelen. Dit zijn kosten die gemaakt moeten worden wanneer er meer elektriciteit ingevoed wordt dan vooraf verwacht werd en er als gevolg hiervan kosten in rekening gebracht worden vanuit de netbeheerder om deze via het net te verwerken.’

Megazonnepark in woestijn moet fossiele imago Emiraten verbeteren

Net ten zuiden van Abu Dhabi ligt één van de grootste zonneparken ter wereld. Velden vol panelen strekken zich uit over een gebied dat vierduizend voetbalvelden groot is. Het nationale energiebedrijf Masdar investeert miljarden in groene stroom, terwijl zijn aandeelhouders geld blijven steken in olie en gas.

Zandduinen en zonnepanelen. Dat is de aanblik in de woestijn ongeveer dertig kilometer ten zuiden van Abu Dhabi, de hoofdstad van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten (VAE). Hier ligt één van de grootste zonneparken ter wereld, dat sinds afgelopen zomer draait. Bij de toegangspoort van het terrein zitten drie mannen met oranje hesjes op de grond, leunend tegen de achterkant van een auto. De schaduw van de wagen is de enige manier voor hen om uit de zon te blijven. De temperatuur tikt de 30°C aan.

Zonnestroom salderen: sector wil ervan af, politiek twijfelt

Zonnepanelen zijn misschien wel aantrekkelijker dan ooit. Geen wachtlijsten, lage prijzen, aantrekkelijke terugverdientijd. En toch zitten installateurs zonder werk. Huishoudens durven niet meer. Dat heeft alles te maken met onzekerheid over de salderingsregeling, een verkapte subsidie voor panelenbezitters. Wordt dit voordeel nu wel of niet afgebouwd? En wat betekent dat voor de terugverdientijd van zonnepanelen?

Met dat laatste zit het op dit moment wel goed, óók als het salderen wegvalt, berekende voorlichtingsorganisatie Milieu Centraal vorige week. Een gemiddeld huishouden heeft de panelen binnen zes jaar terugverdiend. Milieu Centraal vergelijkt de investering met een rente van 6% op een spaarrekening.

Afbouw salderingsregeling zonnepanelen in januari plenair behandeld in Eerste Kamer

De commissie Economische Zaken en Klimaat van de Eerste Kamer heeft besloten om het wetsvoorstel voor de afbouw van de salderingsregeling voor zonnepanelen op de agenda van de plenaire vergadering te zetten.
Daarmee gaat de behandeling van het wetsvoorstel van minister Jetten een nieuwe fase in.

Twee vragenrondes
Nadat de Tweede Kamer half februari instemde met het wetsvoorstel dat de afbouw van de salderingsregeling per 1 januari 2025 regelt, stelden de senatoren van de Eerste Kamer een uitgebreide reeks vragen aan minister Jetten.

Eind maart werden in de eerste ronde tientallen kritische vragen gesteld die de minister voor Klimaat en Energie afgelopen juni beantwoorde. Daarna volgende een tweede vragenronde die afgelopen week werden beantwoord.

De harde cijfers | Enexis: consumenten installeren 878,7 megawattpiek zonnepanelen

Kleinverbruikers in werkgebied van Enexis installeerden in de eerste 6 maanden een recordhoeveelheid zonnepanelen. Maastricht is hekkensluiter en Tynarloo koploper. Deze week in De harde cijfers nieuwe Enexis-data.
Ten opzichte van de tweede helft van 2022 is het aantal kleinverbruikers (red. consumenten en bedrijven met een kleinverbruikersaansluiting) dat zonnepanelen in gebruik heeft genomen met 44 procent gegroeid, van 94.393 in de tweede helft van 2022 naar 135.716 in de eerste helft van 2023. Het daarmee gemoeide vermogen is zelfs met 49 procent gegroeid, te weten van 589,0 naar 878,7 megawattpiek. Dat alles blijkt uit nieuwe cijfers van Enexis, afkomstig van de portal energieleveren.nl.

Geïnstalleerd vermogen
De onderstaande grafiek laat de toename van het geïnstalleerde vermogen aan zonnepanelen bij kleinverbruikers per kalenderjaar zien en voor de eerste helft van 2023, en het cumulatief geïnstalleerde vermogen bij kleinverbruikers.

’Zonnepanelen leveren de helft minder op door slagschaduw windmolens’

AMSTERDAM - De schaduw van de draaiende wieken van windturbines kan bij naastgelegen zonnepanelen voor een verlies van energie met de helft veroorzaken. Die conclusie van TNO-onderzoekers heeft enorme impact: nieuwe windturbines staan door ruimtegebrek vaker naast zonnepanelen.

Het effect is voor het eerst onderzocht. Projectontwikkelaars zullen bij de bouw van gecombineerde parken aanpassingen maken om het rendement van energie van zonnecellen te vergroten.

’50% rendementsverlies’
Het effect van zo’n voorbij flitsende wiek op een zonnestraal voor een zonnecelpark leek altijd minimaal. De schaduw van de wieken verblindt in de gecombineerde wind- en zonneparken ogenschijnlijk maar even de zonnecellen. „Maar na tests met een speelgoedmodel in Petten zagen we bij een groter onderzoek dat het effect veel groter was”, zegt Lenneke Slooff, TNO-onderzoeker voor zonne-energie, die samenwerking met ondernemers opzocht. „Het verlies aan opbrengst van energie voor zonnepanelen kan door die snelle schaduw oplopen tot tientallen procenten. Lokaal zijn er uitschieters met 50% rendementsverlies.”

The French government has awarded 512.8 MW of solar and onshore wind projects in the second technology-neutral tender under the national PPE2 subsidy programme, registering increased prices from the previous round.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) was the predominant technology of the 34 winning proposals in the competition, the Ministry of Ecological Transition announced this week. The overall basket included 30 ground-mounted solar projects and four wind farm schemes.

The average price of the winning bids came at EUR 85.19 (USD 93.30) per MWh, up from EUR 76.89/MWh in the first tender edition last year.

The largest project that secured subsidies in the tender envisages the installation of a 108-MW solar farm in the Centre-Val de Loire region of northern France. The list of winners also contains four proposals for solar PV parks of 30 MW each, which are also among the largest ones in terms of awarded capacity.

In a separate statement, German energy group RWE AG announced it has been successful with 15 MW of projects in the tender – a 11-MW onshore wind and a 4-MWp solar park scheme. The three-turbine wind farm will be installed in the Loire-Atlantique department, while the PV plant will be built in the Charente-Maritime department.

French green energy operator Valorem has secured environmental approval for a 300-MW portfolio of solar projects in the northern Greek region of Thessaly.

The Environmental Terms Approval (ETA) was issued by the Greek Ministry of Energy and Environment, Valorem said this week. The permits are related to seven of the company’s projects planned to be installed as part of a larger photovoltaic (PV) portfolio, called Farsala, consisting of 11 schemes with a capacity of 360 MW.

The proposed PV plants will be built in the Larissa regional unit of Thessaly. With earlier environmental approvals, authorisation is already in place for roughly 350 MW of the overall capacity, Valorem said.

Once all 11 plants in the Farsala portfolio are completed, the PV complex will be capable of producing more than 550 GWh of electricity annually to supply roughly 40,000 homes. The output will go to a new substation to be built by Valorem in Farsala municipality.

Farsala will be Valorem’s largest solar site in Greece. Currently, the French firm's local arm REN VALOREM Hellas is developing 700 MW of renewable energy projects in the Balkan country.

Pfizer pens VPPAs for 124 MW of Spanish solar

US pharmaceutical and biotech company Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) has signed virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) to contract 124 MW of capacity from new solar projects in southern Spain.

The company said it had entered into the 15-year VPPAs with Spanish renewables platform Bruc Energy, with Schneider Electric serving as a broker between the parties.

The contracts are linked to four new solar projects that will be located near Seville. The procurement will cover the equivalent of all of Pfizer’s purchased electricity for its manufacturing, research and development, and commercial sites in the European Union.

This solar capacity, together with the North American VPPA signed in 2021, will contribute to Pfizer's climate goals, the pharma group said.

Arctech to supply 1.7 GW of trackers to Saudi solar projects

Chinese solar tracker manufacturer Arctech Solar Holding Co Ltd (SHA:688408) on Friday announced winning a 1.7-GW order in Saudi Arabia.

The contract is with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Larsen and Toubro Ltd (NSE:LT), or L&T. Arctech will provide 1.3 GW and 408 MW of trackers, respectively, for the AR RASS2 and Al Kahfah projects. The order is already under the delivery stage, according to the announcement. Both projects will use Arctech's flagship SkyLine II solar tracking system.

The 1.581-GWp Al Kahfah and the 2.257-GWp Ar Rass 2 projects are being developed by ACWA Power.

Arctech said this is its first collaboration with L&T. The company added that since setting foot in Saudi Arabia in 2017, it has built a comprehensive supply chain capacity in the country.

"The AR RASS2 and Al Kahfah project mark a new starting point to bolster Arctech's localisation strategy for continued renewable energy contributions in the Middle East," said Arctech Senior Vice President Zhou Shijun.

Spain's Solarpack cuts sod on 300-MW solar project in Peru

Spain’s Solarpack announced on Thursday that it has launched construction of its San Martin solar farm in Peru, initiating the installation of close to 300 MW of capacity.

It said that the project will create the largest solar farm in the South American country.

The ground-breaking follows a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) that Solarpack signed with Peruvian generator Kallpa Generacion. Under the PPA, Kallpa will off-take all electricity generated by the San Martin plant, the Spanish solar developer stated.

The solar farm site is located in the district of La Joya, Arequipa province. According to Solarpack, the new plant will be equipped with 665-Wp solar photovoltaic panels mounted on single-axis tracking systems.

Once up and running, San Martin will be capable of producing over 830 GWh of electricity per year. Solarpack expects the plant to become operational in the second quarter of 2025.

Soltec sells 850 MW of early-stage solar projects in Denmark to CIP

Spanish vertically integrated solar energy specialist Soltec Power Holdings SA (BME:SOL) has sold a portfolio with around 850 MW (direct current) of early-stage solar projects in Denmark to Danish investment firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners P/S (CIP).

CIP, specifically its Energy Transition Fund I (ETF I), bought a 100% stake in the bundle for an undisclosed price.

Soltec said on Wednesday that CIP wants to develop, build and operate the solar farms to supply electricity for the fund’s power-to-X projects in Denmark. The project sites are spread throughout Denmark, with most of the concentrated in the Jutland region.

“We are very satisfied with this first agreement reached with CIP, a company with a great recognition and experience worldwide, to which we have been able to provide with high quality projects under development in Denmark, to contribute to its growth,” said Soltec CEO Raul Morales.

Added Felix Pahl, partner at CIP: “We are proud to have made CIP’s first acquisition of Danish solar PV energy. […] We are certain that CIP can accelerate the development of the portfolio by committing to work closely with local stakeholders to deploy renewable energy projects in Denmark”.

"CI ETF I aims to make a positive contribution to the green transition and Power-to-X industry by developing world leading capabilities in Denmark. The Soltec portfolio can become one of CI ETF I’s steps towards driving local growth and value to the CI ETF I investors," Pahl said.
