SNS noemt specifiek pallets in haar rappport waarvoor die JV is opgezet. Zou dat toch iets met die grote order van IGPS te maken hebben ?
Close reading: SNS schrijft: "we understand that the JV is scaling up in order to fill the order for the plastic pallets ( SNS schrijft pellets, naar ik aannneem een typefout), which requires further funding from both Schoeller Arca and Inno."

groet,
Gijs.

Leuk berichtje over SAS.

Schoeller Arca Systems containers help to protect the world's food supply
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault recently opened its doors to an inaugural shipment of nearly 100 million crop seeds. The seeds came from over 200 different countries and the vast majority of them were packed in Schoeller Arca Systems Integra containers. They are now being stored in chambers deep inside the permafrost on a remote Norwegian arctic island, in an effort to preserve agricultural biodiversity for future generations.

The Seed Vault, a sort of Noah’s Ark of crops, was built by the Norwegian Government and officially opened on the 26th of February 2008 by Norway’s Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, and the Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai. Its purpose is to protect gene-bank collections of crop diversity critical to the world’s food security. Seed banks exist in most countries around the world, but many of these are vulnerable to man-made and natural disasters, war, insufficient funding and poor management. The new vault will safeguard seed samples of plant species which are crucial to food and agriculture around the world, in a high-tech structure built to withstand catastrophes such as flooding, earthquakes, nuclear warfare and even an asteroid strike.

The shipment of seed samples was organised and funded by the Global Crop Diversity Trust, an international organisation dedicated to the conservation and availability of crop diversity for food security worldwide. As part of their coordinating role, the Trust’s experts researched suitable packaging for the transportation and storage of seed samples for the new vault. They identified the Schoeller Arca Systems Integra nesting container as suitable because of its resistance to the extreme temperatures of the vault (which is kept at a constant minus 18 degrees Celsius) and its practicality for both the transportation and storage of seed samples. Being made of recycled polypropylene, the container is also environmentally friendly.

The Trust purchased over 1000 containers, which were sent to seed banks around the world to be filled with packets of seed samples. Each one weighs 3 kg, has a usable volume of 46 litres and an integrated lid. Typically, 400 to 500 samples fit in a container depending on the size of the seed. Individual samples usually contain about 500 seeds. The containers themselves were sealed at the point of departure and the contents are not visible or available to those providing the cold storage. They did, however, go through electronic X-ray screening at the airport, as a security precaution.

Schoeller Arca Systems is used to fulfilling all kinds of challenging requests. This particular one also included simultaneous delivery of the 1000 containers to the nine institutes which are participating in the initial shipment. The company’s Italian office was responsible for coordinating the request and delivery. Says Susanna Ridolfi:

“Although for us the size of the order was not exceptional, selecting exactly the right product and managing the logistics of sending the containers all over the globe were quite complex. But Schoeller Arca Systems is proud to be a part of this important project, which will contribute to ensuring food security for future generations”.

IGPS ANNOUNCES DOLE FRESH VEGETABLES HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED TESTING

RPCs Also Found to Ride Well on RFID/Bar Code Enabled iGPS Plastic Pallets

ORLANDO, Fla. – June 6, 2008 – Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company LLC), today announced that, Dole Fresh Vegetables has successfully completed testing and will begin expanding use of iGPS pallets.

Dole has also successfully completed testing of iGPS plastic pallets in combination with plastic RPCs. “The iGPS plastic pallets performed flawlessly from the field all the way to the end user. The RPCs rode well with no slippage or shifting of any kind.” said Robert Engle, vice president of supply chain at Dole.

Dole has developed a system that ties the unique iGPS pallet ID with Dole’s products UPC to aid in tracking the product movement throughout the supply chain. “Our customers are very excited about the transition.” said Mr. Engle.

Dole Fresh Vegetables is the latest company to use iGPS’ innovative, 100 percent recyclable plastic pallet. Located in Monterey, California, Dole Fresh Vegetables joins Imperial Sugar, Pilgrims Pride and Martori Farms, among other top-tier brands, which have switched from wood to plastic pallets.

“Using the iGPS plastic pallet is part of Dole’s commitment to continually providing our customers with value-added supply chain solutions that enhance our service offering,” said Robert Engle, vice president of supply chain at Dole. “This pallet is a leap forward for the supply chain and, equally important, is further evidence of our commitment to acting in an environmentally responsible manner.”

In just two years, iGPS has revolutionized the way goods are being shipped throughout the US supply chain. Its all-plastic RFID and bar code enabled pallet meets all GMA requirements, weighs 30% less than typical multi-use wood pallets, is UL 2335 certified fire-retardant and 100% recyclable.

“The addition of such a highly-respected brand as Dole Fresh Vegetables is yet another validation of our superior value proposition. We are honored that Dole Fresh Vegetables has put its trust in us,” said iGPS Chairman and CEO Bob Moore.

iGPS LAUNCHES “iDEPOTS,” BRINGING NEW EFFICIENCY TO PALLET RENTAL AND THE NATION’S SUPPLY CHAIN

Latest innovation provides additional revenue to participating retailers and distributors

ORLANDO, Fla. – July 8, 2008 – Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company LLC), operator of the world’s first all-plastic pool with embedded RFID tags, has added yet another innovation to the pallet rental industry—“iDepots,” a new concept that results in lower cost and increased revenue for participating retailers and distributors.

Pallet receivers who choose to become iDepots agree to sort and inspect iGPS pallets and have them ready for pick-up and shipment to another user. In exchange, iDepot operators receive a per-pallet handling and inspection fee from iGPS, making it highly attractive financially. This is the first significant change in the logistics of pallet rental in decades.

“This is a win-win situation,” said iGPS Chairman and CEO Bob Moore. “Because our revolutionary all-plastic pallets are so durable, it is unnecessary to transport them to an inspection and repair facility after each use, as is required for wood pallets. This extra leg in the supply chain is costly, inefficient and generates large quantities of greenhouse gases. Participating retailers and distributors not only help their bottom lines but also help the environment as well. The superiority of our pallet makes it all possible.”

“We set out to make a better pallet and a more efficient supply chain,” said Moore, “and iDepots are another key milestone. We are delighted that we can take cost out of the supply chain and enable our customers to help the environment too.”

Many of America’s top companies now ship on iGPS pallets, including QTG (Quaker Tropicana Gatorade), the Chicago-based division of PepsiCo, Dole Fresh Vegetables, Imperial Sugar, Pilgrim’s Pride, Martori Farms and other top-tier brands.

Located in Plover, WI, and one of “America’s Top 100 Vegetable Growers,” Okray Farms produces a wide variety of potatoes, sweet corn, field corn, and green beans on 6,460 acres of land. The company is the latest to make the switch from wood pallets to iGPS’ innovative, 100 percent recyclable plastic pallet.

“Operating a successful farm for over 100 years requires vision and innovation,” said Dick Okray, President of Okray Farms. “The iGPS pallet with embedded RFID tags is an exciting development, enabling us to streamline our operations and provide higher quality and greater efficiency for our customers. Moreover, as people who care deeply about the earth, we especially appreciate the environmental advantages of iGPS’ pallet vs. the typical wood alternative.”

In just two years, iGPS has revolutionized the way goods are being shipped throughout the U.S. supply chain. Its all-plastic pallet meets all GMA requirements, weighs 30% less than typical multi-use wood pallets, is impervious to infestation and holds a fire-retardant UL 2335 certification.

“Our pallet and infrastructure are ideal for businesses like Okray Farms that ship perishable items like fresh produce,” said iGPS CEO, Bob Moore. “Thanks to the superior durability of our pallet, its 100% top deck coverage and non-absorptive nature, Okray Farms produce will arrive at its destination in better condition and with less risk of contamination.”
