White House adopts new safety precautions as coronavirus moves closer to Trump's inner circle

With coronavirus exposure arriving in the West Wing, the White House is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of the president and his staff after two administration aides tested positive for the coronavirus.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will be tested daily for the virus, as will every staff member in close proximity to them. White House guests will be tested, workspaces will undergo regular deep cleaning, and staff will follow social distancing guidelines, undergo daily temperature checks and have their symptom histories reviewed, White House spokesman Judd Deere said Sunday.

“The president’s physician and White House operations continue to work closely to ensure every precaution is taken to keep the president, first family and the entire White House complex safe and healthy at all times,” Deere said.

Rechtsgeleerden, advocaten etc van de Department of Justice komen in opstand tegen AG William Barr

1,900+ alumni from TheJustice Dept
have published a statement condemning Attorney General Barr for his department’s continued political interference in law enforcement, this time with respect to the prosecution of Michael Flynn.

twitter.com/protctdemocracy/status/12...

The Statement :

DOJ Alumni Statement on Flynn Case

We, the undersigned, are alumni of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) who have collectively served both Republican and Democratic administrations. Each of us proudly took an oath to defend the Constitution and pursue the evenhanded administration of justice free from partisan consideration.
Many of us have spoken out previously to condemn President Trump’s and Attorney General Barr’s political interference in the Department’s law enforcement decisions, as we did when Attorney General Barr overruled the sentencing recommendation of career prosecutors to seek favorable treatment for President Trump’s close associate, Roger Stone. The Attorney General’s intervention in the Stone case to seek political favor for a personal ally of the President flouted the core principle that politics must never enter into the Department’s law enforcement decisions and undermined its mission to ensure equal justice under the law. As we said then, “Governments that use the enormous power of law enforcement to punish their enemies and reward their allies are not constitutional republics; they are autocracies.”

Now, Attorney General Barr has once again assaulted the rule of law, this time in the case of President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn. In December 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States. Subsequent events strongly suggest political interference in Flynn’s prosecution. Despite previously acknowledging that he “had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI,” President Trump has repeatedly and publicly complained that Flynn has been mistreated and subjected to a “witch hunt.” The President has also said that Flynn was “essentially exonerated” and that he was “strongly considering a [f]ull [p]ardon.” The Department has now moved to dismiss the charges against Flynn, in a filing signed by a single political appointee and no career prosecutors. The Department’s purported justification for doing so does not hold up to scrutiny, given the ample evidence that the investigation was well-founded and — more importantly — the fact that Flynn admitted under oath and in open court that he told material lies to the FBI in violation of longstanding federal law.

Make no mistake: The Department’s action is extraordinarily rare, if not unprecedented. If any of us, or anyone reading this statement who is not a friend of the President, were to lie to federal investigators in the course of a properly predicated counterintelligence investigation, and admit we did so under oath, we would be prosecuted for it.
We thus unequivocally support the decision of the career prosecutor who withdrew from the Flynn case, just as we supported the prosecutors who withdrew from the Stone case. They are upholding the oath that we all took, and we call on their colleagues to continue to follow their example. President Trump accused the career investigators and prosecutors involved in the Flynn case of “treason” and threatened that they should pay “a big price.” It is incumbent upon the other branches of government to protect from retaliation these public servants and any others who are targeted for seeking to uphold their oaths of office and pursue justice.

It is now up to the district court to consider the government’s motion to dismiss the Flynn indictment. We urge Judge Sullivan to closely examine the Department’s stated rationale for dismissing the charges — including holding an evidentiary hearing with witnesses — and to deny the motion and proceed with sentencing if appropriate. While it is rare for a court to deny the Department’s request to dismiss an indictment, if ever there were a case where the public interest counseled the court to take a long, hard look at the government’s explanation and the evidence, it is this one. Attorney General Barr’s repeated actions to use the Department as a tool to further President Trump’s personal and political interests have undermined any claim to the deference that courts usually apply to the Department’s decisions about whether or not to prosecute a case.

Finally, in our previous statement, we called on Attorney General Barr to resign, although we recognized then that there was little chance that he would do so. We continue to believe that it would be best for the integrity of the Justice Department and for our democracy for Attorney General Barr to step aside. In the meantime, we call on Congress to hold the Attorney General accountable. In the midst of the greatest public health crisis our nation has faced in over a century, we would all prefer it if Congress could focus on the health and prosperity of Americans, not threats to the health of our democracy. Yet Attorney General Barr has left Congress with no choice. Attorney General Barr was previously set to give testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31, but the hearing was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We urge the Committee to reschedule Attorney General Barr’s testimony as soon as safely possible and demand that he answer for his abuses of power. We also call upon Congress to formally censure Attorney General Barr for his repeated assaults on the rule of law in doing the President’s personal bidding rather than acting in the public interest. Our democracy depends on a Department of Justice that acts as an independent arbiter of equal justice, not as an arm of the president’s political apparatus.

(If you are a former DOJ employee and would like to add your name to this statement, please complete this form. Protect Democracy will update this list daily with new signatories until May 25th.)

High Court Set to Hear Historic Trump Financial Records Cases

The president’s tax returns have been the target of Democrats ever since he refused to release them during the 2016 campaign.

In a pair of cases that test the limits of presidential privileges and the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, the Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday over whether House Democrats and a New York prosecutor can subpoena President Donald Trump’s financial records and tax returns.

The cases concern subpoenas that seek various financial documents related to Trump, members of his family and his businesses. The court will hear remote telephone arguments in the cases across two hours Tuesday morning, with the disputes concerning the congressional subpoenas combined into one argument and the fight over the New York prosecutor’s probe in a separate block.

The high-profile fights have been destined for Supreme Court resolution since the first of the subpoenas went out last spring and are among the most closely watched and politically charged cases the court will hear this term.

Een inkoppertje

Trump reageert op deze tweet :

Why Did Obama Tell The FBI To Hide Its Activities From Trump?

Donald Trump :

Because it was OBAMAGATE, and he and Sleepy Joe led the charge. The most corrupt administration in U.S. history!

‘Worst I’ve ever seen it’: Farmers watch helplessly as Trump’s promises evaporate in COVID-19 crisis

President Donald Trump promised farmers at the start of this year that historic trade deals would deliver huge gains to them, but just five months later some grocery store shelves sit empty as farmers are forced to euthanize livestock and throw away produce.

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the $2 trillion food industry and destroyed supply chains, and farmers find themselves far worse off than they had expected when Trump promised the best days are “yet to come,” reported the Washington Post.

“This is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” said 43-year-old dairy farmer Scott Glezen, of Lisle, New York, “and I’ve seen some very bad times.”

China had agreed to double its purchases of U.S. farm goods, and Trump also boasted of a provision in the new North American trade agreement requiring Canada to open its dairy market, which was expected to deliver a $300 million gain to American farmers.

Trump has secured $28 billion to help farmers — who were a key voting bloc in his 2016 win — during his tariff war, and Congress provided an additional $19 billion last month in coronavirus relief. Another $14 billion will become available in July — but farmers say all that help is “completely inadequate.”

“If Congress does nothing more than what they’ve done to this point we will have a very bad crisis in agriculture that will be equal to the 1980s,” said 55-year-old Scott Blubaugh, a cattle rancher and crop farmer in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. “We’re going to see a mass exodus of farmers and ranchers if they don’t do something. We don’t want a government check, but this may be the only way to keep some of these people going another year.”

Economists pour cold water on Trump’s promise of a swift post-pandemic recovery

Donald Trump’s dream that the U.S. economy will swiftly bounce back once America gets back to work following a nationwide shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was dashed by economists speaking with the Wall Street Journal who said it will more likely be a long arduous climb that could take two years or more.

With the president and members of the Republican Party hoping and praying for a quick economic rebound that could salvage what might be a devastating November election for the GOP, analysts claim the so-called “V-shaped” return to economic health is likely out of the question.

‘The dumbest conspiracy of all time’: Veteran reporter blows up Trump’s crazed ‘Obamagate’ ramblings

President Donald Trump over the weekend launched a series of attacks on former President Barack Obama in an effort to cast him as the purported mastermind of a conspiracy to ensnare former national security adviser Mike Flynn into a perjury trap.

Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman, however, writes on Twitter that Trump’s conspiratorial ramblings about Obama fall apart at the slightest scrutiny.

“Serious question for Trumpers: why would Obama ‘SPY’ on Trump campaign but not do anything with the info?” he asks rhetorically. “Put another way, why would Obama WH go to extreme lengths to break the law but not help Hillary win? That’s the dumbest conspiracy of all time.”

In fact, the public had no knowledge that the FBI was investigating the Trump campaign’s multiple contacts with Russian agents during the 2016 election until after the election had ended.

In contrast, former FBI Director James Comey dealt Hillary Clinton’s campaign a significant blow by publicly announcing the reopening of the investigation into her private email server just 10 days before the 2016 election, all while keeping the investigation into Trump a secret.

Mike Pence quarantines himself in room alone to lead task force meeting after staffer tests positive

Vice President Mike Pence has put himself in some sort of quarantine after two White House staffers, included his spokesperson, tested positive for COVID-19.

ABC News correspondent Katherine Faulders reported that Pence did not appear in the Situation Room on Monday as he normally does.

“Many of you heard that we had a couple of staff members that tested positive,” Pence explained to the group from a room where he was alone.

Net als de burisma gate. Waarin Joe Biden's son was accused. This had gone viral with a consistent push from Donald Trump on twitter.

Bill Palmer | 17:58 uur EDT 11 mei 2020
Palmer Report » Analyse
