Facebook Removes Trump Campaign Ads With Symbol Once Used By Nazis

The Trump campaign ad displayed a red inverted triangle, previously used by Nazis to designate political dissenters.
Facebook took down a Trump campaign ad that railed against antifa and leftist groups while prominently displaying a red inverted triangle, which was a symbol Nazis used to designate political dissenters who were imprisoned in concentration camps.

Axios noted that “Facebook has given politicians and campaigns wide latitude in what they say on its platform, but this appears to have been a step too far.”

The ad with the red triangle was shared by the accounts for Donald Trump, VP Mike Pence and the Trump Campaign and first appeared on Wednesday.

Facebook said in a statement: "We removed these posts and ads for violating our policy against organized hate. Our policy prohibits using a banned hate group's symbol to identify political prisoners without the context that condemns or discusses the symbol."

The report also notes that the “Trump campaign has been running ads attacking Antifa and other groups on the left for much of the month.”

Trump campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh told the Washington Post the symbol is used by antifa adherents. Others have disputed that claim, as antifa supporters tend to instead use a different symbol — two flags surrounded by a circle — that dates back to opponents of the Nazis in 1930s Germany.

A curfew was implemented for areas around the BOK Center on Thursday night ahead of President Donald Trump’s scheduled campaign rally.

In a Facebook post Thursday evening, Tulsa police announced that an area of downtown will be off limits from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Saturday ahead of the rally. The curfew will again take effect after the rally until 6 a.m. Sunday.

The curfew is the result of an executive order from Mayor G.T. Bynum, which cites both local and nationwide unrest in recent weeks as the rationale for the curfew.

“I have received information from the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies that shows that individuals from organized groups who have been involved in destructive or violent behavior in other states are planning to travel to the City of Tulsa for purposes of causing unrest in and around the rally,” the order states.

The curfew affects the area from Archer Street to Sixth Street between Houston Avenue and Boulder Avenue. The people camped outside the BOK Center waiting to get into the rally were being moved out.

Police posted information about the curfew about 45 minutes before it took effect. Those found in violation who refuse to leave will be cited or arrested, according to the Facebook post.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, a Republican, declared a civil emergency Thursday and announced a curfew near the arena where Trump plans to hold a campaign rally on Saturday.

Bynum cited recent “civil unrest,” expected “crowds in excess of 100,000” in the vicinity of the rally and opposition protests in his decision to place a federal exclusion zone for a six-block radius near the arena.

The BOK Center, which can hold up to 20,000 and had people lining up outside of it more than two days ahead of the Saturday rally, cited an uptick in coronavirus cases in Tulsa, Okla., as the reason why it requested the plan. The campaign was already going to provide masks and hand sanitizer to each attendee, and there would be temperature checks at the door.

But GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told Fox News she believed masks would be optional and there has been no apparent social distancing plan or similar system for the indoor event.

More than two days before the rally, Fox News spotted Trump supporters already lining up to camp outside the venue.

Supporters have been seen lining the street since Monday.

“So you are prepared to sit out here for five-six days?” a local reporter with KFOR asked a group holding up a Trump 2020 flag this week.

“We’re here till after the rally,” one woman told the reporter.

According to the Trump campaign, more than 1,000,000 people have registered online for the first-come-first-serve rally, which has a capacity of just under 20,000. Those supporters were required to sign a waiver releasing the Trump campaign from responsibility for possible exposure to the coronavirus.

"Looking at a 2nd event in town to get more people to be w/@realDonaldTrump," Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted as the number of people registered surpassed 200,000. "Gonna be GREAT in the most open state in the nation!"

Twitter plaatste vervolgens een blauw uitroepteken met de tekst ‘gemanipuleerde media’. Volgens het sociale medium hebben meerdere nieuwsnetwerken bevestigd dat het gaat om een gemanipuleerde video die voorzien is van een neplogo van CNN. Ook CNN zelf reageerde: ,,Wij hebben verslag gedaan van het oorspronkelijke nieuwsverhaal over de jongetjes. Dat deden we met feiten. Wij zullen dat blijven doen. Misschien moet u hetzelfde doen.‘’

Niet de eerste keer
Het is niet de eerste keer dat Twitter de Amerikaanse president op deze manier terechtwijst. In maart 2019 stelde het platform dat Trump een medeoprichter van Greenpeace verkeerd had geïdentificeerd en april 2020 wees Twitter erop dat de president ten onrechte had beweerd dat hij de staten kan dwingen om hun economie opnieuw op te starten tijdens de Covid-19-pandemie.

De voorbije weken liepen de gemoederen tussen Trump en Twitter nog hoger op, nadat Twitter een tweet van de president had voorzien van een factcheck en een andere tweet had gemarkeerd omdat die zou aanzetten tot geweld. De president tekende vervolgens een decreet dat het makkelijker moet maken om sociale media aan te klagen.

In January 2018, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Berman's appointment as interim U.S. Attorney for a statutory period of 120 days. Barr probeert te verdrijven Amerikaanse procureur onderzoek Giuliani, maar hij weigert af te treden

Als de regering van Donald Trump een omstreden poging doet om te vuren, doen ze dat graag op vrijdagavond. Dit was het geval met het ontslaan van inspecteur-generaal Steve Linick in mei. Dezelfde methode werd gebruikt met inspecteur-generaal's Christi Grimm en Michael Atkinson.

William Barr probeerde gisteravond nog een keer te schieten, in een poging om de Amerikaanse procureur-generaal Geoffrey Berman te verdrijven. Dit verliep niet zo soepel als de procureur-generaal had gehoopt. Berman gaf een vernietigende reactie vrij zeggend dat hij niet van zijn post zal aftreden.

Barr's verklaring te lezen: "Ik dank Geoffrey Berman, die aftreedt na twee-en-een-half jaar van dienst als procureur van de Verenigde Staten voor het Zuidelijke District van New York. Met vasthoudendheid en savvy, heeft Geoff uitstekend werk gedaan leidend één van de belangrijkste Bureaus van de Procureur van onze natie, bereikend vele successen op gevolg burgerlijke en misdadige kwesties."

Berman, heeft onderzocht cijfers als Jeffrey Epstein en Michael Cohen en is momenteel op zoek naar Rudy Giuliani. Hij zei dat zijn ontslag nieuws voor hem was.

De SDNY officier van justitie gaf een verklaring die te lezen:

"Ik hoorde in een persbericht van de procureur-generaal vanavond dat ik 'aftreden' als Procureur van de Verenigde Staten. Ik heb niet ontslag genomen, en hebben niet de intentie van ontslag, mijn positie ... Ik zal aftreden als een presidentieel benoemde kandidaat wordt bevestigd door de Senaat. Tot die tijd zullen onze onderzoeken zonder vertraging of onderbreking verder gaan."

Berman werd aanvankelijk benoemd in zijn positie door Preet Bharara, die ook door Trump werd ontslagen.

Berman onderzocht (onderzoekt) dus nog iets : het inhuldigingsteam Trump 2016 en de toen ontvangen illegale donaties. Het plaatje wordt steeds duidelijker.

Eindelijk weer eens een event waar een groot aantal aanhangers hun steun kunnen geven en nieuwkomers overtuigd kunnen raken van de energie die Trump nog heeft in tegenstelling tot "sleepy Joe".
